I have a ValAir and it is awesome, I bought the Ceramic 3800Lb. Plate load and it does everything I need it to very well. I use my truck for work to haul tractors, hay and hay equipment to the fields that aren't close and it doesn't miss a beat. I have hauled up to around 20K, maybe a little more and it did great! Plus Dan is the man! If you have any issues he is very good to deal with, I talked to him when I bought the clutch and he had it to me either the next day or day after (don't quite remember lol [duh] ) But IMO South Bend, I am sure is a great clutch and good service but why spend 2x or 3x the cost when you can buy an AWESOME clutch and get great service for a MUCH better price from ValAir?

Regardless of brand, know that a ceramic will eat your flywheel and a metallic will chatter.

Feramics don't eat flywheels unless the flywheel is soft, which CTDs aren't.

I like my FE, but it's not a towing clutch-- it wants to be either in or out.

Not going for much but you want a clutch that holds 600 horse? It might last, but not long especially if you are drag racing on a single disk. If you're going to go for twin chargers, sticks, meth, save your money and get a dual disk. Do it once, and do it right. I hear of way too may stories of guys trashing singles running pretty decent power.....I'm one of them, i've done it already. If the valair is what you want to do, go for it. But can't say you weren't warned!

I wont be drag racing very often at all more or less i just like to have the power. Really maybe go to the track 1 or 2 times a year. An occasional street race if somebody bugs me alot at stoplights. Is there anyone that makes a good dual disk besides southbend. I mean dont get me wrong south bend is a great clutch its just i would rather not spend $2500 on a dualdisk clutch when i could probably get by with something else.

You have the same exact idea I do. I don't know if I will go to the track or not, I probably won't. I'm all about laying the smack down on someone that wants to board my bus and be taken to school on the street occasionally. As for DD clutches, I don't know of any other companies that sell DD's for street use. I think Hasiley Machine builds them, but they might be built more for pulling trucks than street queens. I know it is a good chunk to spend, but at least you're not having to build an automatic!! I just don't want to see you spend your hard earned dollars and then down the road you gotta prematurely replace it for one reason or another. If I didn't have a son coming in about 2 months, I would have stuck a DD in no doubt.

yea i have had people ask me why i dont race here or race this person yada yada yada. And i tell them what i already said above. Then i hear them say well thats pointless i wouldnt of waisted my money on all that crap. I just turn away and laugh.

I will more than likely just go ahead and get the valair clutch i guess the ceramic because i havent heard the big difference in that and the iron one? If i do get twins it will probably be a while anyways so who knows maybe i will get lucky and this clutch do me good. I will give dan a call maybe tomorrow and talk to him more.

Any input is still going to help. Thanks for yalls help.

I like the bus comment adam thats funny! I learned my lesson on a cheap clutch. thats one of the reasons why I traded my 05 tired of it slipping. it was a LUK clutch by the way. they dont last under decent power and they are very grabby. it was redone and needed redone again when it was traded in a couple months later

Yeah there isn't really any speed shifting in these trucks, I've found that out over time. I can shift pretty quick but I just don't want to wear out the synchros and stuff. I guess I don't need all the power, but like you said it's fun to have it and just get a little crazy every now and then.

What about the valair ceramic 13.25" that comes with the flywheel. Will it eat that one or do they make it so it wont?

Any ceramic is tough on the flywheel. I don't know anything about valair clutches.

FWIW- Valair is coming out with a dual disc, might be worth calling Dan and seeing what the time frame is on one of them.

I know yall have said some positve stuff about valair but i rode in a truck today with the ceramic and it just really didnt impress me with the drivability i should have drove it to see what it really felt like but i didnt. I Mean who knows maybe the kid just cant drive.

Or would i be much better off if i could get a brand new southbend con-fe for $1000?

I have the Con Fe and love it and do a good amount of towing. Its not grabby. I have had a Duel spring Sacks made for my 92 and a 6 puck ceramic disk. I ran it for 2 years and it looked like now when I pulled it out and it was on a stock flywheel. It was strong enough to twist off the input. We had a Sacks in a 400+hp truck with a stock spring with the same disk and he slipped it at the sled pull and burned the pucks all the way off and just had a bare disk and the flywheel was fine.
