You don't always need a DD unless you want to sled pull with your truck then it helps.
i never sled pulled with my south bend all i did was tow and with my edge box on 5x5 i would run right through the clutch so yes a dd is for sled pulling or towing with lots of power

if you think youre a poor high school student now, wait til you start sled pulling!!

if youre strapped for cash, get a single disc and dont sled pull.

Im in the same boat, im broke and need a clutch. Southbend is great..im just poor lol. I have also called Dan at valair a few months ago and he really is a good guy, probably talked to him for 30 minutes about dodges. He made me a great deal I just didn't have the money for his nicer clutch at the time. Their main business is big rig clutches so I figure he shouldn't have a problem making a clutch for a dodge. I just put a smarty in my truck so that should finish off my clutch so my new theory is I will have to spend the money now when the truck wont move anymore.

Valair! I had to do it twice because I got a bad(warped) flywheel but the clutch is really smooth and will hold. I had a LUK progold and it was a great clutch but it just would not hold when the power went up. I still have the progold in excellent shape if you want to try it. PM me for details. If you want to do it right the first time though call Dan 940.859.1496 and tell him exactly what you want to do with your truck!!

sounds to me like you need to turn the juice off for a few months and save some money so you can buy a decent clutch. you can do the band aid fix if you want, but after all the work involved to put a $300 clutch in the truck, thats just gonna slip on you anyway...i would save my back and knuckles and only do it once.

This is coming from a guy who has had his 400lbs NV5600 out of the truck 4 times now...its NOT fun anyway you look at it.

Also, I went with a Luk full cerametallic first time around, supposed to hold 550/1100 and it lasted 11 months before it slipped on every 5-6 gear shift. Cost me $560 + $70 to turn the flywheel, and after 11 months I then spent the money for a SBC DD and it has seen some serious abuse, boosted 3rd gear launches 2-3 times a week if i feel frisky, been thru 8 sled pulls with 4,000 rpm 55psi launches with sled behind it, plus i daily drive it, and its still going strong! You wont get better customer service than SBC either, back in March when the clutch held, and the bullet proof NV5600 broke i noticed the throw out bearing needed replacing...called peter and he shipped one over night free of charge!

i would go with a south bend I have and ofe andit takes a lot of abuse kinda wish i had gone wiht the fethough for future mods was afraid because everybody said it was hard to drive with traler and thea even the ofe would be hard for backing up. Iguess i must be an extradionary driver or maybe these people that were saying it can't drive. pop pop must have known something making me drive tractors since i was 5.
