I've Been reading threads on this site for a while now. Gained alot of useful knowledge. First time posting, so sorry if there is any mistakes. Should I get the South Bend Con. O or the Con. OFE for my truck? Dollars are kinda limited at the time.

No matter what clutch you choose, do yourself a favor and leave room for more power. It is too easy to come by to tell yourself you're "satisfied" with a current level. When you spend $700-$1300 for a clutch, the last thing you want to do is get another one 50 hp down the road. I went with an FE...13" conversion. I love it with one exception. It does not tolerate slipping gears at a launch etc. Once it is heated, it might as well be a stick of butter till it cools down. The FE material is VERY good at holding power provifding the lining temps aren't high. For me, slipping out 3rd gear would be nice when drag racing off the line. My 3-4 and 4-5 are very fast, but that 2-3 gets me bad. I now know, I should have gone with a DD, especially since I don't tow much. Anyway, the moral is think down the road and leave room for growth.
The OFE will be smoother for low speed manuevering, while the FE chatters a little if you don't have the rpm and slip just right. If you're thinking "O", just jump straight to the OFE.......too much clutch doesn't hurt a thing but too little does!! All this only applies to SBC, I don't know any others so won't steer you wrong there, but there's a reason SBC is as popular as they are with the Cummins boys
Good Luck

I would have to say that weigh Money avail. V. Goal HP. That is the problem I am running into. I want a good clutch but don't have 1300 for the best they have. I look at how much I can spend and find tthe best clutch for that amount. For me I am going with a clutch that can hold 400hp for under 700. That will give me room for upgrades for my stock truck in the future. Years doen the line if i want to break the 400 limit ( which will happen ) I will put in a biiger clutch but I will be able to spend more money then. For a clutch I would go with a South Bend ( Supporting the Indiana Economy and thats all that most shops stock) They are very proven and reliable. Good luck with the choice.

I agree 100% with got Diesel?. When I first started bombing, I figured anything that would hold 400hp would do me fine, so I went a step above that and got the con ofe. Several months passed, more mods, a bigger turbo, injectors, etc., and my con ofe is slipping occasionally and even 2nd gear launches will slip the clutch now. So, I have a south bend DD clutch sitting on my shelf now waiting for the right weekend to put it in. Although Peter did give me a discount on the DD since I was a previous south bend customer, I still have way more in total clutch purchase $ than if I had gone straight to the DD. Once I install this DD, I will be safe up to 650 hp.......and I just can't imagine that I will exceed that number. I am really happy with where I'm at right now, just wish I had gone with the bigger clutch to begin with. Knowing what I know now, I would have rather waited a few months to save up the extra expense between the 2 instead of just putting in what I could afford at the time. Good luck with whatever you do!

I would go with a DD if you could if not then a fe would be the next in line. I use Peters clutches for one reason... He will stand behind them. O put all of my clutches to the limits and I even fried a Older vershion SBC DD. The newer ones with all the upgrades are by far the best streeable DD out there. i have driven them all and I'm very happy with the clutch I have noe. with 15 hooks and 20k miles of towing on this clutch it still hooks hard when doing a 3rd or even a 4th gear burnout.
