Chopping a frame?

Didnt really know where to post this but here it goes.

I am either going to keep my truck or get another reg cab except SWB 2wd and chop the frame and make it a short bed. BUT if I keep my truck I have been throwing around the idea of chopping the frame on mine andmaking it a reg. cab shortbed dually and try and find a big single slicks to run on it at the track. So either way I need some help on how to chop a frame and so forth. Yea I know people prolly think the short bed dually would look stupid but i still dont know yet and i LOVE being different than everyone. So if anyone can photoshop it with short bed dually that would be cool. So anyhelp would be greatly appreciated on some direction of chopping a frame. Thanks.

Kevin

Hey BBA I dont know about chopping a frame but Cefis Gregory had a 98 single cab 3/4 with a five speed and 250k on the odometer for 2800 dollars before we left about two months ago. Probably gone now but he always has cheap trucks around his lot.

Do keep in mind that your frame is heat treated! Chopping it is easy...putting it back together so it won't just break at the "heat affected zone" is more complicated.

Sounds like a cool project though!

there is very little heat treat in these truck frames , i worked at a dodge deal and we used to cut and weld them all the time , we just z cut them and fish plate and frame on the inside

Maybe you can get a short bed from a 1/2 ton and put some mega cab fenders on it.

Had thought about that but dont think it would look right because of the body lines not matching up.

when I was at texas diesel nationals I saw a 3rd gen four door short bed that had been converted to a dually. The normal finders fit on the short box with about an inch to spare. It look kind of funny but I think it would look better on a single cab

Shorten the axles while you are at it and use a regular bed with some "low rider" type cut-outs?
