Chip w/out Pyro?

I just picked up a Superchip D-Box (aka Edge EZ). I have a fuel pressure gauge and a tranny temp gauge in, but won't have time or money before my next trip (3k miles w/ 4 horses) to install pyro/boost gauges. I'd really like the extra power and mileage for the trip, but don't want to fry anything. Will I be safe w/ the chip in if I don't have the pyro/boost gauges?

you have to ask your self "do you feel lucky?"

probably would be ok, but you never know .

Ditto what rebal said. I feel like you will be okay but ya never can tell. As long as youre not pulling many big hills you should be okay. If you do have to climb a few good hills, just go easy with it. Before ya go u might think about gettin rid of your muffler and converter. It helps keep em cooler and makes em sound sooo much better! Your horses might not like you tho

Either the horses or the fiance! Gotta keep the stock exhaust.

Edge advertizes no increases in EGT (because of the timing increase, right?). From what I've read about other's experiences, that seems to be true.

So just downshift a little earlier, etc, etc, right?

what kind of shape is your tranny in? do you have a tranny temp gauge? EZ and 15,000 lbs may cause too much heat, let alone the EGT concern.

My tranny seems to be in good shape, but I've only had the truck for the last 5k miles. I'm going to be installing a tranny temp gauge and changing the fluid/filter before we leave on the trip.

The trailer is 15k gross, but for this trip it will probably be loaded to more like 10 or 12k.

now I had exhaust and intake when I had my EZ, but I could pull my trailer (about 10k) all day long steep grades and all and egt would get barely over 900.

You should be ok.........the EZ doesn't add that much fuel to have to worry about frying anything. I had my COMP on 3X3 with 35" tires and stock 3.54 gearing pulling a flatbed trailer with a Jeep on it throught the mountains hauling some butt and I never saw over 1100*

Knowing what I do now with having guages, I wouldn't do it.

It's amazing how fast the pyro swings into the nuclear zone!

Just my .02

Was that before or after your injectors??? On a stock truck I wouldn't think it'd get that high.

On my 02 that i had, it ran cooler egt wise with the EZ, than without. I never saw above 950 with it and I saw 1100+ without it. Oh and I did have 4" exhaust, but other wise stock. SO DO IT!

I ran my comp as an EZ for a while before I had injectors and I could pull my trailer with 3 horses in it just fine without any EGT issues at all. I would be more concerned with FP than with heat. As for the loud truck, my horses don't care!

Sounds good to me. I've read in several other places that people found their temps lower w/ the EZ than without. Thanks for the advice!
