I was just stating the specs on the Carter. Didn't say that's what you have to buy. There are many people using the Carter and Holley set-ups with NO trouble. Just because you couldn't get it to work doesn't mean that they don't work.

I was just thinking that I could pick up a holley or a 4601 carter for about $110. relocate to the frame and hopefully not have any issues, It looks like it won't be a PITA to accomplish. and the pumps are readily available. I'm not going for high power myself, just the XZT+ and some rv275's.
Right now with the P74213 carter in the stock location, I'm @ 12psi Idle and 8.5 WOT with the XZT+ on. So I'm thinking, the 4601 or holley would be cheap enough and it should last longer in the frame location.
If I have to replace a LP every 2 years (touch wood) That doesn't bother me, not that I'm rich but $110 barely fills the tank!!!!

That Walbro inline filter I saw on ebay for $110 doesn't look bad either, but if that fails 300 km in the bush then you better have another one or you have to mickey mouse the carter back in??

Okay, so one last time guys, please bare with me...

Vulcan pusher pump/relocation kit

Holley blue

Draw Straw II

And thats all I'll need to make it work with my in-tank pump? Anything else I should add while I'm at it? Like a filter to VP line perhaps??

I had the same advise given to me, and failed to listen. I took every precaution, from a prefilter to running a relay and heavier guage wire to the pump, just for insurance. I am just trying to help save someone else the trouble that I went thru.

1BAD4x4, you can also get a pro-comp pump for about 40$ from Ebay, they are supposed to be the same as the Holley pumps, and even have interchangable parts, they also come in Blue, Red, or Black. I'm in the same boat a you and also need a Cheap fuel sys. upgrade. my stocker just packed it in and its about $200 for a carter where I am, and about $177 for the holley. I think if the pro-comp is built the same as the Holley, then you should be able to get 2 for the price of 1 and have a brand new spare?

I'm curious to hear if anyone has used these pro-comp pumps??

I've never heard of them. I know not every knock off is a bad one... but generally I try to stay away from knock-offs... after all they're knock-offs, so you generally have no clue as to where they cut costs to keep their version cheaper.

If ur gonna run the Holley with the in-tank pump, then you don't need a Draw Straw. If ur not gonna use the in-tank, then yes you do need a Draw Straw. As far as the FF to VP line, personally I would change it out too, but that's just me. If ur doin that much of the fuel system, you might as well go all the way to the VP. That Vulcan kit may include enough hardware to go to the VP, I'm not sure, might want to ask Eric.

My Carter P4601HP lasted only 4 months and never saw over 8psi. After extensive research of a lot of threads I think I will go with the Walbro (the 392 is higher pressure than the 391, but I can't figure out why I want 85gph/40psi over just 57gph....). I'm going to use a Watts 26 3/8" regulator just before the fuel filter and set it at about 15-17 psi. I'll monitor the VP44 inlet pressure with my Quadzilla Commander fuel transducer (making sure I get around 13 psi WOT if possible). The VP44 will bypass (through the overflow valve on the banjo fitting of the return line) at 14 psi.
It seems that anything over 14psi at the VP44 is just waste since it is returning to the fuel tank. If the Walbro flows too much fuel it needs to return a lot to the fuel tank via a return line plumbed either into the stock return line or fuel filler tube. The Walbro GSL-395 looks like it would work without a regulator or return line (10-30gph at 30-10psi) also.

I ran two different carter 4601hp pumps with the vulcan line kit/ relocation. The first pump would give me 15 at idle and 12 wot. The second gave me 16+ at idle and 12 wot. 1/2 lines and fittings made a difference IMHO. That strong pump is just sitting on the floor now

And fishin isn't the only one. I was running 50 psi at cruise when I had my mechanical pump put in. The regulator makes it perfect always: 18-22 =P
