Re:cheap rpm
Idle might become high. Touchy throttle. 5-speeds are much better candidates for screwing with the governer.
Call this guy,, (936) 856-3121 He can tell you how to turn up the RPM on a 5-speed truck. (Can't do it on the Auto's)

Re:cheap rpm
i was thinking i could just back off on the low idle screw to lower it back down. i called the guy you said and he said to adjust the high idle screw to get a extra 300 or so rpm. might have to give that a try thanks. mike

Re:cheap rpm
Mike, on my 98 12v I got rid of about two months ago, taking the high idle screw almost all the way in, I could hit 3500 RPM like it wasn't anything, stock. With the #10 plate and 5 inch exaust, it was crazy how fast it hit 3500, usualy tried to keep it under 3200, but it was hard. Sweet sound out of a 5 inch straight pipe at about 3300 RPM.

Re:cheap rpm
Which one is the high idle screw. I was wondering about tightening up the gov. springs on my truck but I was not sure if you could do that or not. I would like to try adjusting the high idle screw but I am not quite sure which one it is. Can anyone tell me what to do and anything else that I may need to do to readjust the idle.
Thanks,
Justin

Re:cheap rpm
why can't you do it on the autos? I have done it on two of them.
anything past two clicks on any of the trucks I have worked on makes the throttle really jumppy and jerky.

Re:cheap rpm
There's another trick to get mroe RPM, but it messes with the TV part. Since it is a 5-speed, you could modify it, but on the Auto, the TV wouldn't work after doing "the mod".

Re:cheap rpm
dodgeman01, whoops, missed your replay a while back.
The TV is the Throttle valve and I'm pretty sure it changes the pressures, and shift points in the tranny. I'm just learning auto's, I know just enough to be dangerous to them.
It might be the high idle? I don't remember.
Good Luck

Re:cheap rpm
the high idle screw is the one that the lever hits at wot. it is above the center point on the arm on the back lower section of the pump. about 2" back from the govoner spring cover. it has a anti tamper cover that is not to terrible to remove. mike
