changed HX35 to HX40 turbo lag ?

I think I am still gonna go with the HX-40, and just make sure I don't go over 40 psi with it. I think a 40 will fit my overall HP goal (400-450 hp), and keep it fairly cool.

Yeah...Forrest has more miles over fueling a HX40 than most people.
Personally, I wouldn't even consider running a HX40 on anything over 350hp. They're time bombs! I might look for one for the 95, but it's probably a whopping 275hp now, and the 40's do cool better than 35's, and both are cheaper than a good Schwitzer!

The shaft and the exhaust wheel are the same size just uses a different flange to bolt the housing to the turbo than the 35. there is nothing wrong with a 35-40 hybrid if kept down to 40psi. the rebuild kit is the same for the H1C, WH1C, HX35, and HX40. all that changed was how the compressor and exhaust housings mounted and compressor wheel size. 52mm, 56mm, 56mm and 60mm. Compressor wheel size actually has little affect on spool a little but not much.

not sure who you're replying to, but the HX40 turbine wheel is most definately larger in diameter than the HX35 turbine wheel. The rebuild kit is the same because the shaft diameter is the same, hence the same bearings, but the turbine is most definately larger. and where the housing bolts to the turbo is the same... there are large inlet pattern 40's, but they won't bolt to the stock exh manifold... and the turbine outlet plate has a different flange obviously, but where the turbine housing mates to the center, it's the same. that's why we're able to build 35/40 hybrids
the compressor wheel doesn't have as much effect as turbine wheel and turbine housing, but it absolutely makes a difference... it's all about where the compressor is at in its efficiency map... take an sps62 and an sps66... the 66 is going to spool up a good 200+rpm later. that's a substantial difference with all other things being equal

Yes the compressor wheel is (60mm instead of 56mm)The exhaust wheel is the same according to the turbo shop that is making mine right now where I looked at the two side by side and the two I have on my floor right now even had the same part #. The shaft and the exhaust wheel are made into one piece. The 40 uses a different exhaust housing that can't be exchanged with the one off of the 35 you have to by one with the smaller exhaust flange like you said that is for a 40. I have them apart right now and the exhaust housings won't interchange. The way that we are making my 35/40 is by machining out the compressor housing to accept the 60mm wheel only. Using all my 35 parts and my 14cm w/g exhaust housing. I don't want to get accused of starting anything so I'm done. Yall have fun.

I'd probably find a different turbo shop if I were you... an HX40 uses a completely different turbine wheel... larger in diameter. major and minor. it's actually the only thing that really designates that the turbo is an HX40 in my opinion. That's why HX40's have a 4" v-band exhaust outlet and the 35's have a 3" outlet.
There are HX40 compressor wheels that are smaller than some HX35 compressor wheels. They are found on larger low/boost applications.
the hx40 turbine housing will mount up to an HX35 or H1C no problem. The only real difference between an H1C and an HX35 is the H1C uses a V-band on the compressor vs. a snap-ring. When I had my HX40 built, we used an H1C compressor housing that was also cut for a silencer ring.

I'm not sure where you guys are running into small HX40 wheels, but if you have a turbine wheel that is the same as an HX35/H1C wheel, it's not an HX40 wheel that I've ever seen or heard of... it's an HX35/H1C wheel

That is wierd that so many people are running into that, of the two HX35's and the one HX40 that are sitting in the garage the HX40 has a noticably bigger turbine, If I have a chance before I go to work in four hours (and I just got HOME from work) I will go measure the wheels and post them...
