Can i use this for twins?

hey guys i got this turbo from work, off of a mack engine they were going to junk. seeing as how i have lots of fuel, could i use the turbo in a twin setup? or is it too small? couldnt find the displacement on the engine but i found that it was a 1990 model. the compresser side says A/R .55 M-24 Garrett
the exaust side says A/R 1.15
dont know the history of the engine but it looks like it had been sitting in the warehouse for quite some time.

Thanks

It might be a little small for a twin setup. But thats just my 2 cents.

the inlet starts a 3" then narrows down to 2.5" right in front of the impeller

Sounds small......the compressor wheel doesn't look to good, either......then again, I have a crappy monitor, too....

its not your monitor. the turbo is in rough shape. i was hoping it was big enough, then i would just have it rebuilt. so what A/R or inlet size do you typically use for the bigger twin? there are some other turbos i might be able to get but if they are not big enough then i wont bother.

I would say it's too small and definitely needs to be rebuilt or cleaned up

It might be a good size for the small turbo, definately not big enough for the big one though.

I can tell you that i have a Garret Gt 40/42 Hybrid With a 1.09 Ar exhaust housing and a 98 mm compresor wheel and it is laggy on spool up once it gets going i can hit about 48 lbs of boost i have a full ats trany with with about a 2100 stall that helps the spool up before the custom converter it was extremely laggy. When is say laggy i mean it wouldnt spool untill about 2500 rpm's. I am running Don M's Mach 5's with a hot rod VP44 any questions about the garrett turbo please pm me i have had quite a bit of experience with this turbo.

It is not too small for twins...IMO

If you want to use it in a twin setup use it as a top(secondary) turbo being fed by a HT3B or something equivalent, AND use a 50mm external wastegate.

You might get out for around 800.00ish or less if you are resourceful.

Good Luck
James

Gunracer probably has a bottom turbo laying around that you could bargain for.

since i already have a pdr hx35 i would like to keep it as the top turbo. alright i found a bigger turbo at work that is on a cat motor they are sending to the scrap yard. the intake near the impeller is about 3" rough guestimation. but is definately bigger than the garrett. however the guy at work said it would cost about $1000 to rebuild it because its a cat! that doesnt seem right, a turbo is a turbo it shouldnt cost that much to rebuild it or could it? the turbo looked better then the garrett just felt like the impeller moved a little more then it should which should just be bearings or bushings right?

I have sent alkind of turbos in for rebuilding on the average the coast is about 400.00 that was even for the HT3B.You can buy new ones for alot less I just bought a Bht4A 3.400 comp.Wheel Exhaust 26 housing for a 1000.00 new from a Holset dealer.
