Can I get a little advice on mods?

Hey all.

Im getting ready to work on my truck. Ive been saving for a couple years now, I like to do everything at once. This is the setup I PLAN on, and I am hoping you guys can help me tweak or change as neccesary.

Intake- AEM Brute Force or Volant, not sure yet
Intake Manifold- ATS
Exhaust- Silverline 409 Dual S/S (Turbo Back)
Chip- Edge Juice W/ Attitude (nice chip, saves me from buying new gauges)
Turbo- No Idea, none at all. Its gonna be a daily driver, but I would like to eventually hit 350+ HP. I want to have excellent response at lower RPM, even if it is at the expense of a bit of top end performance. I dont haul much, just my hunting gear and VERY occasionally a boat. Please help here.

Now, my main question, asides from the turbo, is what mods NEED to be done with all that. Do I need a new driveshaft? Injectors? Fuel pump? Thanks in advance for any info. I am deployed right now, so I wont be buying for 4 more months.

THANKS!

Looks like a decent list. One suggestion is save your money on the intake manifold and put it towards something else. They are a waste of money for the most part.

What kinda of transmission do you have? If it's a manual then you've already got the turbo to support 350hp easily. Might need a new clutch depending on how you drive. If it's an auto then I suggest stepping up to a ps62 or possibly even an HX35 (factory turbo on a manual truck). I also recommend doing at least a decent valvebody in it so you don't destroy it. I'm partial to DTT.

First things first though, check your fuel pressure. You need no less than 8 at WOT. I prefer no less than 10psi. I'd also get a permanent gauge for that as it's very vital to measure the fuel pressure. If you've got low pressure then there are several options out there on what to do. Do a search for lift pump and you'll find TONS of reading.

Other than that your pretty much set.

I agree with BigBlue, save your money on the intake. The Vulcan Big Line Kit does wonders for the fuel pressure. The FASS is the best but its expencive. The Vulcan Kit is not. Good luck!

Alright, I found the Vulcan and the BD aux pumps. I can skip the manifold and go with the pump, same cash. I like what I have read about the Jammer BB Turbo, and I suppose I would need to do a valve body for that. Ive also read I may need new injectors. Sounds great for power, but bad for wallet and MPG. Will my mileage take a nose dive and how much should I look at paying for the valve body and injectors, parts and labor (Aint got the time or know how), if I do both at the same time?

Thanks again for all the advice!

Actually injectors usually improve mileage. Don't go too big on injectors and get a j-hook or turnbuckle and you might be able to swing it with your hy turbo =P Yours is good for around 28 lbs and most bb turbos max out around 40.

Search for member Cspotrun- he made over 400 hp with a hy and rv275 injectors

Sounds good, Intake, Exhaust, Chip, then Injectors. Would this require a Valve job, or is the stock valvebody tough enough? Im still worried about the price here, it sounds like Injectors/Valvejob will cost more than a new turbo...

Not really. you dont need a valve job, probably. And, you can get edge injector nozzles for less than $300, I got my 100hp nozzles for $220. Youll want to take that left over change and get a turbo. PS 62/12 seems to be REALLY popular. And if you run the J/A 100hp sticks and a PS 62 turbo depending on the tranny mods you can lay down 420+ HP and still be pretty cool EGT wise.

If you are going to do a box and sticks, I would reccomend a VB upgrade to help your tranny live a long life. You can get a VB for around $500, (under, I think).

Is it an Auto? if so they are referring to a Valve Body that is in the transmission. you don't need to do a valve job, that is in the head.
Might want to look at a Torque Converter upgrade too if it is an auto.

****, thanks jeep guy, there jargon in here is worse than my cousins chopper-shop. "sticks and a box", Im guessing that means injectors and VB?
And I know yall are helping me out of the kindness of your diesel pumping hearts, but please stop abbreviating brand names, I've never dealt with half these companies! Infact, beyond Mopar, Holley, Edlebrock, Jasper and NAPA, Im pretty much clueless.

Ok, so you guys have done what I hoped, steered me towards the cheapest, most effective steps at bombing my baby. Intake, Exhaust, Chip, Injectors.
Later on will be the turbo Im guessing.

Sticks would be injectors (they look like sticks, expensive sticks, but sticks none the less)

And a box is a chip, on the 24v Cummins they are actually boxes that plug in, not chips...

And sorry about the way we always seem to abbreviate things. Most of us don't have blood in our veins

yeah im runnin straight #2 with 14 oz of a MMO and PS mix

if i were you, i would get an air filter. afe, or the like then i would straight pipe the exhaust. after that i would fix that auto so it can take about 150-200 hp then i would get a smarty and some Mach 4's.

Then depending on if you want to add a box (tst or the like) i would look at a turbo. possibly the ps62. depending on if your comfortable at your power level you are at now.

I prefer just #2 and 8oz of Power Service Silver.

Also I think Brian just listed the best daily driver setup for a 24v. On the fly power adjustability is not a big deal to me. Good thing with the 12v

i believe that a good set of machs, a smarty, and a turbo is an excellent daily driving machine.
