my girlfriend has a 01 lb7 duramax 2x4 single cab work stock, well it is very light and all stock. When I drive it for her to go get its oil changed or to listen for the funny noise she heard, I open it up a bit to let it breath and I think from a stop this dmax will beat my truck but I think I could beat it from 45 mph, maybe!

If you get beat, which you probably will, just go to the next truck pulls or diesel drags in your area. When he sees little 12 valve Cummins Trucks sweep the events, he will know who the big dog is--then he'll want to sell the dmax. The dmax is a great engine but there ain't nothing like a 1st,2nd or 3rd gen Cummins. I'm not biased at all!

I vote for the dmax, of course the guy can sleep at the light, and you could win. Dmax are fast trucks for almost doing nothing to them. Do they hold-up to abuse, yes and no. If you want to spank the dmax good, find a set of injector and the comp box. You'll have to boost launch, on a head-up pass. Dmaxs start out the hole faster than our trucks. I smoked a few, some will give you a good fight.

I remember I pulled up to a white one a while back, didnt think much till I saw the NHRDA decal on the window and then the A-pillar came into sight he looked over, I promptly stared him down and as I was putting my other foot on the gas to get the boost up the light changed he was gone in a stupidly fast spooling puff of smoke and a little tire squeel.
If I find this truck again, I will follow it until we find a properly timed light to race from!!!!
They are quick but not impossible to beat.

I got whipped pretty good, but not how I expected from reading the previous posts. On the first run, with the smarty on #6 I didn't load it at all and he slowly walked away. Second run I put smarty on #7 and loaded it a bit. I killed him out of the hole, and through second gear but then he proceeded to blow past me like I was standing still. It was pretty unbelievable. I think first up is a valve body, then maybe a TC with better fluid coupling. He'll have some larger tires soon though, that should help me out a bit too. That d-max is a pretty impressive piece of machinery.

Duramax will still win any dragrace/trailer dragrace you want.
The DMX/Alli is a good combination.
While the CTD has more TQ and a faster torque rise, it also falls off quickly 50% of peak torque after 2500 rpms. Couple that with the splits in the automatic....
The DMX has a slower torque rise, but MAINTAINS 70% of its peak torque from 1900-2800 RPMS. And the allison is a pretty close ratio 5 speed auto.
Stock to stock, get used to seeing GM taillights. Even bombed to the 500-600 RWHP range, expect the same thing.
The weakest point in the Duramax is the transmission once you pass the 1200lbs-ft mark.
