Talking Can I beat it like this? ehhhe..

My truck is pretty stock, it is stock. I floor it almost everywhere, I catch 3000 rpm accelerating, on the highway I cruise about 70+ at 2200 rpm or so. Am I hurting anything? A guy at work called me crazy for beating it so much. I told him that these trucks are almost indestructable. Am I right? Should I be more careful? Any expieriences, problems? Thanks

I'd get a set of gauges and see what everything's doing just to be on the safe side but other than that your good. Cummins designed these engines to idle at 3000rpm all day long.

u floor it everywhere? the engine doesnt care it never will...start saving a good tranny for ur habits...gauges ofcourse before increasing fuel

u havent even broke in ur motor yet....ur motor is bored....so's mine and everyone elses...maybe the 5.9 in an freightliner FL80 actually does some work

Not quite accruate, my engine is not bored, and it does some work. And..... I can out pull a Freightliner up a hill loaded. ie bigger motor, lighter truck.

in stock trim it does not matter how you drive it as long as its properly warmed up and coolled down. Try bombing it ... its very difficult to floor it all the time cause your goin so fast.I noticed after all the mods I have done, I acctually drive alot slower because its such a beast when floored.

I agree with the last two posters. I have so much power now I can hardly find anyplace to use it. I have to feather the fuel to keep the smoke in check and to keep from driving THROUGH the traffic ahead of me.
It is kind of nice to ride around knowing that the engine is like a tightly wound spring just waiting for you to press that accelerator and turn it loose like the Tazmanian Devil (that's how it feels when I get to open road).

Woah I stimulated some people. Yes I let it warm up, and have ordered some gauges from summit. I am almost in it about 500 big ones and still no performance mods. I don't however let it cool down that long maybe 1 min. I read in the owners manual that its not that important unless you tow a lot, which I rarely do. Thanks for all your input! I cant wait to start moding this thing out. I will post pictures as it comes along

i know i would not be able to stand to drive a stock cummins, some people love to drive their truck stock and put hundreds of thousands of miles on them stock just like they are, and never screw with anything, but me, just knowing the potential is there to run over 400 hp pretty easily and not really spend all that much money for the power, i just think "why not" then you can beat all your buddies with gas burnin toyotas that think they are the best and have spent a lot more money and time than you have on their vehicles. plus, i like to smog people out when they make me mad but to answer your questoin, no i don't think you will ever hurt anything prematurely just by flooring it everywhere you go. oh, and i was just looking at your rofile deal and it says your truck has 4.10's, but then you say it will run 70+ at 2200 rpms. idon't think your truck has 4.10's i think it would run more in the range of 25-2700 rpms with 4.10's, could be wrong, but i don't want to start an argument about that, since it is a pretty touchy subject, i don't know why it is, but just is.

Gauges could been cheaper than 5 big ones how about 3 big ones!!! (Ordered from DPP)

After running mine hard down the highway and pull into my driveway. The pyro is showing approx 600*F!!! It takes a full 2-3 minutes to cooldown to 300*F or lower. This is no trailer, no load, and driving 65 MPH. Pyro is extremely important for you turbo.

If you got a jake on that truck flip it on and let the jake warm it up faster. I cheat a bit for warm ups. I will take off and run it slow and easy up to 55-65 MPH and let the jake drag down to 45 MPH and work it back up slowy to 55-65 MPH. I continue this cycle until engine temp rises. It take about 2-3 miles to get full 190*F temp instead of 8-10 miles...

Banks twinram.. I have a 4.10 rear end and run 285 tires.. Got the speedo recalled and run 2150RPM at 70MPH.

That doesn't sound QUITE right.

265 tires will turn 2K rpm at 72mph (baseline assumption). 4.10s run 316.384 rpms higher@ 72 mph.

So, 4.10s plus 265s tires means 2316 rpm @72mph.

285 tires generally have 636 rev/mile, while 265s run 658 revs/mile. This is a difference of 3.3%, giving a decrease of only 77 rpm, putting you at 2239rpm @ 72mph.
