bypass oil filter

Does anyone use a bypass oil filter? I'm looking at a premo but haven't found any first hand experience. Do any of you wise diesel docs have opinions on the cost vs. benifit of using a bypass filter?

Thanks in advance

Re:bypass oil filter

I to have been thinking about a bypass filter, I have thought that I could buy filter housing for a Fleetguard by pass and plumb it in.
When I worked in the oil field I serviced engines on several pieces of equiment that had centrifugal oil filter along with a spin on filter. I have thought that I could find one of those an install it on my truck. JimK

You might want to check out this thread. Did not pursue it to see if it could work on Gen3.

http://forums.atsdiesel.com/showthre...p;threadid=156

Bob

Re:bypass oil filter

That Fleetguard looks interesting. I'm also looking at the Oil Guard http://www.oilguard.com/index.php which I saw for $160 which is about half of the Premo. I haven't seen the cost on the Fleetguard yet. I like the Oil Guard because it can mount any position since its pressure return where the Premo is not. I like the Fleetguard and Premo because the filter is spin off spin on which equals less mess to me. I need to look into the Fleetguard you all just intorduced to me as well at the filter header. Without the truck its hard to see which way to go, gravity or pressure as well as how to plumb it. Any input on the plumbing would be great too. Many thanks.

Re:bypass oil filter

The Fleetguard with their filter head would make a sweet set-up at a bargain-basement price, but is sized for a bigger truck. To avoid bypassing too much oil, install a 1 mm (~0.040&quot orifice somewhere in the line.

"If I'd known then what I know now..."
