Building exhaust 4 or 5 inch
Since I have accesability to all the benders and welders and everything. I am going to build my own exhaust. If I go as close as i can to the flange for the downpipe will 5 inch fit up there or will I have to go with a 4inch downpipe. Also I dont care about losing bottom end seein that i cant use it because of the stock tranny. So my other question is which is best for being the loudest because I want it LOUD so should i go with a 4 or 5 inch system.

I have a 4 in. on the wife's 02 and a 5 in. on the 97. The 5 has a lot nicer tone to it than the 4 in my opinion. Both of them are fairly loud. I vote for the 5. The 5 has a 4in. head pipe and goes to 5 at the last turn by the trans. Both are home made with bends from the truck shops.

The cheapest i've found 4" exhaust is like 25 for 45 and 90 deg bends, I forgot how much the straight pipe was. I had 150 just in material for mine just to get around my t-case, you guys don't have that problem though lucky you. But that exhaust is pretty expensive just for the piping and bends

Ive been told that you can get all the piping from NAPA and build your own 4" for just over a hundred bucks.

My other avenue might be the Warpspeed system that a few guys have been talking about. The price is GREAT.

The 5 in. parts from the truck place cost 175, that is from the bell housing back. The 4 in. cost about 80 but I used thin wall rigid conduit from the job site I was working on so you can figure two 8 ft sticks of that in the cost.I think it took 4 90 degree bends to get out the back and some of them were cut in half. I think on the 4 in. it was ran straight over the rear axle and then down and around to get out of the back and it does go to the turbo. With it tucked up near the frame it will never have enough of a load on it to hit the axle. The thin wall conduit is a little thicker than exhaust and has a little better galv. on it. It's cheap if your in the right place.

Alright well then im gonna go with the 5 inch then. I will list all the parts and prices after im finished. I really want stacks but I just dont like the way they look on 2wd reg cabs unless any one has any pictures that could change my mind.

I think my wife's 02 is louder than the 5 in on my 12v but the tone is completely different in the two trucks. Hers has a real deep tone and a little cackle sound where the 97 is just a smooth tone coming out of it. Don't get me wrong, the 5 in. is louder when you are on it hard but normal driving the 4 in is louder. Both are loud as you see people look your way when you go by.
