build my tranny!!
YAAAAA!!! just picked up a 96 4x4 tranny for my first gen truck. so i have a few questions, im replaceing my 727 for this new one, hopefully i'll get some more power to the wheels, anyways, i need it to handle 600+rwhp so what do i need??? are VB's needed to help put down that much power or will the stock one with upgrades suffice, also what converter is better for my setup? single disk or triple??? should i upgrade the flexplate??? sorry for all the ??? but i want to build this tranny right. thanks

you'll need a triple disk convertor, billet flex plate, billet shafts, race vb, all clutches need to be alto reds, i'd get double deep pan, convertor lock device, and oh yeah you'll need a few bucks uhh about 3,000 of them. lol have fun try not to blow'r up

How are you going to control that 47RE? They don't have a hydraulic governor like the 47RH's. Easiest way to do it is use a manual valve body and 2 switches to engage overdrive and lockup.
You'll also need a spacer to mate your NP205 to the 47RE.

Well to be honest im not 100% positive its out of a 96 cummins, thats what i was told from the guy i bought it from, he had it in his 1990 diesel 4x4 and had two switches for the lockup and overdrive. so maybe its a 47rh, i haven't checked the numbers on it yet to be sure

Hey 65 give Dave at Goerand Bros. a call and just tell him what your plans are and he will tell exactly what is required. Nothing more Nothing less. He won't steer you wrong and you will love his parts.......

Can you tell me if it would get going pretty good because i might swap one into my 1984 Ford with a C6 transmission 3 speed. So i was wondering how that would do behind it. I know some of the rail dragsters have powerglides but they rev past 5500 or so. I just work good for a weekend driver and some track time once in a while. So any info on how well you thought it preformed would be nice. Sorry not trying to still your thread you are just the guy with the knowledge to ask since you experienced it.
Thanks Adam

QUOTE=JD730;1976996]Sounds like the one in the classifieds section, by looking at the one picture it is a 47RH, they only came in 94 to 95 trucks.[/QUOTE]

Yes, i was talking about the 727 transmission.
7 secs that doesn't seem to fast to me at 500 rwhp, maybe i am wrong though. Seems like thats what my dads powerstroke could do. So i am assuming the gearing on diesels is huge when making a fast truck.
Did it press you back in the seat? Could it compete with the newer trucks?
Thanks for the help

Wow 3.07 would be hard to get a turbo to light. I was thinking about putting 3.54 in mine because it is a 4x4 and that is the highest gearing i can get for both diffs. I can get 3.08 for the rear but then no 4x4. Also i am sure the streling 10.25" rear end could not handle all of that power. So maybe i could get a built Ford 9" rear end and put that behind it with 3.30's something or 3.50's and forgo the 4x4. I also never tow with it so (reason i say the 9" is that i saw in Diesel Power that put one behind a Cummins that was in the 11's) i would not need all the extra mass.
So at that horsepower rating would it wear the convertor out really fast or were you pleased with the reliability and longevity of your convertor?
Also do you know anything about the C6 and how much it can be built to hold?
Thanks so much for your information it means a lot to get it straight from the guuy who has experienced it.
and good luck with your new trans build
