Broken p pump

Well my pump got bench tested and its not working properly. The truck ran fine before it was pulled (well I thought it was fine). Turns out it defuels real bad at 3k. I figured it was just because I have the small pump. Turns out the gov. system is bad also. They told me my pump will go to 5k, but since the defueling problem it doesnt turn that. The shop said that its most likely a stuck plunger. How do plungers get stuck and how did my pump break? I thought p pumps were bullet proof. There is only 180k on my truck. Kind of makes me wonder what a working pump would do on my truck.

Yeah, I trust them. Its Ken from Turbo Auto Diesel. I wanted to just buy a 913 pump from him but he wanted to try and see what he could do with this pump instead.

the plungers "can" get stock in the barrel...

i bought a pump a while ago, the pump layed around for a long time.

i took out all the 6 barrels, and 1 or 2, where a pain to get out, and when turning the barel the plunger turned with it... the plunger was stuck in the barrel.

i lubed everything up. installed the barrels, makin sure they where loose. now the pump runs awesome. just tested it today for the first time.

You wont turn 5k on that pump without some work. I think the shop must not know what they are talking about... My truck only pulls to 2800rpm before it defuels, and my buddies is about the same. I dont really see how a plunger could get stuck, and you still have a decent idle, etc. Im sure the pump can be made to run pretty darn good, but they just dont like to fuel hard past 3k without internal work IMO. Let us know how it is when you get it back.

Is the 913 supposed to be much better than the 887?

According to scheid the 887 annd 913 are the same pump. I talked to them about internals and everything and they told me that.

Josh:

Talk to the guys at the shop again and ask if they are telling you pump rpm's or truck (engine) rpms. If memory serves me correct the pump spins at twice the engine rpm. If that is the case, then they are telling you that at roughly 2500 rpm on the engine you are defueling (5000 on the pump). That would indicate a problem especially with your 4K GSK (should let your pump spin to 8000). Maybe have them check your governor to see if it is hanging up. Since you maybe don't get into the high rpm range much you might not have noticed much of a problem. Just a couple of thoughts.

The gov. doesnt really bother me that much, its that it was defueling so early and I didnt even realize it. Truck ran awesome. They are building me a 913 pump. Hopefully I will have some numbers to post soon.

JDG:

I went home last night thinking about it and you are right, I was wrong. Sorry if it confused anyone. I remember being at the pump shop and the tech kept having to remind me to double the rpm reading he had to match engine rpm. Thanks for the correction.
