broken D70 axle shaft
Friend broke his drivers side axle shaft on his 2000 cummins and we need to decide what to do with it. Truck has 7" lift and 40" boggers and last I knew dynoed in the high 4s or low 500s. Its a pretty much straight mud bogger truck with a welded rear end. Is it worth the extra to put a d80 in the rear now or is there much stength gains from the 70 to 80? I believe he has 4.56s in there now but am not possitive. Otherwise anyone have suggestions where to get a shaft? I need to call the local drivetrain shop here to price out but just wanna see what otehr options we have.

Your going to gain a bit of strength with the Dana 80, but not a whole lot as far as shaft strength goes. Get a set of alloy 37 or 40 spline alloy axles from Superior and be done with it. He'll have to get a new diff, but if he's running a Lincoln Locker, buy a spool. Its cheap, and a lot stonger.

I snapped my drivers side shaft about a month ago. but I have the powerlok in the rear. spent about 500 bucks and got some bigger 35 spline Yukon shafts, and 35 spline internals kit for the powerlok. stockers were 32 spline. should be about twice as strong.

The Dana 80 is a hybrid of sorts....its a 80 center with 70 outters I believe......SO i dont think shafts will be much bigger......Like suggested, find some better quality shafts and see how that works for ya.....
