Box/No Box/Injectors

first of all, new guy here. hello! been learnin alot here. this is my first 24V, had a 97 for a while. anyway, in my readin i saw a post where i thought a guy installed injectors without using a box of any type. is this possible? would like to run injectors only if that would give me a good enuff HP gain. i have a Torque Dog module now. it's not bad, but not real impressive. i have an Auto Trans so i don't want to get to wild, but would like something around 75-100 HP more. a well known diesel shop told me that i have to run a box to run bigger injectors, but just wondering if that's true. truck is used for transportation mainly, but pulls a 24' trailer to the track on the weekends. not wanting to BOMB the crap out of it. just a little more performance. any input would be helpful. thanks!

You are running a box so what's the problem? =P Just messing with ya

If you disable or modify your wastegate (usually a j-hook or turnbuckle on an auto) then the additional fuel from the injectors will cause more boost to build and when the ecm sees that it'll throws a code. Most boxes have a 'boost fooler' to tell the ecm that there's only 20 lbs of boost. When I was running injectors and no electronics the turbo would spool then it'd feel like I hit a wall until boost dropped- kinda like the 2700 rpm defuel.

F-1 injectors mach 1.6 is usually recommended for a performance injector good for towing with the stock turbo. Good for 90 hp. There are also mach 1's good for 65. I <3 my mach 4's =P

i got a heck of a deal on the box. just runnin it for now til i figure out what i want to do. yeah, i forgot about the boost/defuel thing. i also forgot to mention that the truck is still under warranty. that's why i wasn't wanting to run a box. i figure i could probably slide the injectors by without being noticed. i'm hoping for now, that i can pull the box off and not get in trouble if i need some work done.

you can run injectors by their self. And you can put a box on that the dealer can't detect JUST DONT tap the pump wire. A smarty would be a good choice

mach injectors are a good choice. Jammer nozzles are good also, and much cheaper

GET GAUGES!! before you do anything else, if you dont have them already

humm this needs to be moved to 24v performance.

The problem with installing only injectors on the 24v is something has to be done about fooling the boost readings by the MAP sensor. You almost need a box for that.

I have 100hp injectors in, and have for 30,000+ miles. I may not be getting the full 100 hp out of them, but I am happy with the increased MPG, and its not like they make the truck feel anything like stock. I am really happy with them, but I do want to get a box some day.

When I lost my lift and Vp$$ under warranty I was sweating the injectors issue, but they would have had to pull one to check and they didn't Soooo

You could keep the torque dog and add RV275s. They are reasonably priced so it's hard to go wrong with them. Great for an everyday work truck and one with an auto trans that you might worry about but are only going to yield you maybe 25 RWHP.

sorry, i guess i did put this question in the wrong catergory. (newbie mistake) how about some info on where to find the $50 anti defueling device. also, will the removal of the valve body be about the same as it was on my 97? i'll probably do a valve body upgrade myself. if i remember right, it's kind of a bear to get the park lever unhooked. i've always used Transgo shift kits in the past and had pretty good luck. do they (Transgo) still make a good kit for these?
