Ahh, I'm alright then, I hope... I think I'm going to skip this bottom tap thing and just back them out and torque them. Does anyone think I should get new studs or just use the old ones that are in great shape? The old ones probably won't stretch anyways.

Maybe just find someone who knows what they are doing to overcheck or assist with your work....

Ive used the same 12x1.75 tap on all my engines with no problems at all?
Some of the holes sure get filled with engine grunge so cleaning them out is important to me to make sure the bolt actually threads all the way in. Just my $.02

Agree completely! I was surprised how much crude was in the bottom of the holes. I would at least clean out and would still recommend bottom tap. I ran one of the studs into each hole before tapping and several of them spewed a bit of fluid that had leaked into them when pulling the head. This is the reason I think some people have problems getting the heads to seal. The oil/antifreeze has to go somewhere. Just my thoughts but new head holding at 25* timing and 50psi peaks so. Also torqued to 140 ft/lbs and one retorque only.
