Check the tap against the threads on the stud. If they match up, its good. If they don't, then you have the wrong tap. I thought it was a M12x1.5 thread?

Sucks to be you!
Look on the bright side, though - at least you only tapped one hole the next size up (darn furrin' Metric crap! )
Let me know if you need help finding a metric heli-coil insert...

It's not that sloppy! It's just not as tight as the other ones. I did a search on here and multiple people said to use that one. I'll be fine and glad I only did one.

Take a stud and put the tap to the threads that go in the block. If they are the same, they will match up. If its not the same, they won't. Easiest way to tell.

i know this will ruffel a lot of feathers. and i dont want to offend anyone. that said why not just screw then in and be done. even if you are using fire rings i doubt it will matter. i know a lot of people say you have to do this and go through that torque then loosen and torque then loosen bit. but ive put heads on 4 trucks 2 with studs 1 with new bolts, all fire ringed none of them were tapped none ever retorqued one of them even reused the old bolts. all of them were torqued to 140lbs. not a one has leaked yet. when my gasket finaly dies all ill do is stud it,torque it and forget it.
hope i dident tick anyone off just sharing what i know works...
