boost question

my buddy has an 01, hes got a super B turbo 150hp injectors fass and an edge, he thinks his boost is low for the fuel he has. on his display it showed a peak of 41 but wouldnt really hold much higher than 35-37...that sound right?

Depends on where the wastegate is set.

well thats kinda what im getting at. Theoretically with that ammount of fuel he can make more boost yes? and to adjust the wastegate you just tighten the rod right? sorry im a PSD guy but im assuming its the same.

From what I understand the super b is not like the special super b, it's small. Just a little bigger then stock. So for that turbo it might be with in it's max range before it starts to push hot air. Call bd and ask them what the range is on that turbo before you go adjusting the waste gate. Just remember more is not always better.

The BD is set at 45 from the factory. I have the turbo and with the mods in my sig I can hit 45 at the blink of the eye. Without the Smarty I could hit just around 43.

The Edge monitor will only read up to around 42 psi. I thought mine was low too, phoned Edge and they verified it. Hooked up a mech. gauge and I'm at 50 psi

Unless they have changed the module and or the programming, mine reads up to the upped 50# range, nearly 60#.

hmm maybe he has a boost leak? shortend up that rod and still 38 39 at best. Id like to see it with a actual boost guage. but I mean the turbo is cleaning up the smoke so, i dunno.

If his EGT's are good, why add more boost?

Aren't you just working the turbo harder than you need to? Also, isn't the lower boost producing cooler air which helps EGT's?

Im sure its something more than that, fwiw it appeared fine last time the hood was up. I dont know what his EGTs get to right now, but last timewe were out checkin the boost I could hear his edge beeping away from the EGTs....dunno what its set at ect ect. but I do know they did drop in comparison to the old turbo.
