boost pressure?

Hello,

I have been searching on here but ahven't found it yet.. What are the boost pressure numbers I can expect from a "stock" truck?

I ask because I am making a wish-list to hand the wife for Christmas, on that list is going to be boost/pyro gauges and a holder for my truck (see sig)

I have the factory turbo and manifolds (upgraded airbox and injectors though)

How high should the boost go? I am trying to decide between the 35 psi or 60 psi autometer gauges.

I have no plans to completely bomb the truck. Might get a Smarty someday though.

Thanks,

Matt

Get the 60psi. Any gauge is the most accurate at mid range . If you make over 40psi you are taking a chance unless you have studs and a better head gasket.

Thanks for the suggestion! I think I will go that route.

Just for my information though, what are the boost pressure readings that would be considered "normal" for a stock-turbo truck?

on my 01 auto with the hy turbo iirc max stock boost was 20 as that was how the wastegate and ECM were set. Wastegate would open by 20 and if the ecm saw above 20 it would defuel. Even after I put on an edge ez which had a boost fooler in it which took care of the defueling aspect it still wouldn't go above 20 until I turnbuckled the wastegate.

The waste gate limits high boost to whatever it is set at. My waste gate has been blocked off for years. I won't go above 40psi as I don't have studs in the head. The waste gate on mine is adjustable, even if not in use.

Thanks all for the replies!

Well, I am going to try and install this gauge and an EGT gauge in the next couple weekends or so.

Any recommendations for how to hook-up the Boost gauge? I hear about a "Boost-Bolt".. Is that the easiest/best way to get boost pressure to the gauge?

Driver's side of the engine by the map sensor (way in the back - map has a grey plug and wires hanging off it) is a manifold plug - take it out - go to hardware store and find a brass plug with a nipple same size - put it in, run your hose to your gauge - done!

Boost bolt may be the easiest but not the cheapest. As sea drive mentioned there is a plug that you can take out and replace with the proper size bushing for a few bucks. Careful not to pull the wrong plug there is another one there that is a coolant galley plug
