Boost fooler
What is a boost fooler and how does it work?
Can I take advantage of this on a stock truck?
I'm planning on adding a xzt+. Is the bf useful at this stage?
I'm planning in adding some 50-100hp sticks later. Will the bf still be useful?
BTW - will bigger sticks create smoke or with this setup will (can) I still run clean?

A boost fooler allows you to build more boost, WITHOUT throwing a code.
It does not actually allow you to build more boost.
It wont do anything on a stock truck. However, adding that chip and those sticks will give you more fuel that will spin the turbo hader and give you more top lbs. Thats where the fooler comes in. More pounds and youll through an over boost code. The fooler will trick your ECM into not seeing the higher poundage = no over boost code.
Alot of boxes have boost fooler built built in, Edge, Smarty, not sure about the xzt+ but I think most Quad does.

An adjustable boost elbow replaces the factory boost elbow that sends air to the wastegate diaphram to open the wastegate at ~ 20psi. The adjustable one has a small screw that allows you to limit the amount of air passing through the elbow, therefore, changing the PSI at which the wastegate opens. Here is a boost elbow:

As far as boost foolers....... The XZT+ has one built in. The boost fooler sends a signal to the ECM telling it that you are not exceeding ~20psi of boost. Normally, if the computer sees more than ~ 20psi of boost, it starts cutting fuel (defueling) therefore, actually reducing your power.
On VP trucks, boost foolers and boost elbows work hand in hand.... One takes care of the electronic side of things, the boost elbow takes care of the mechanical side of things...

So assuming I run the XZT+ (w/boost fooler) AND add an adjustable boost elbow, do I install the XZT+, run the truck hard (I.E pull) and then adjust the elbow for max boost? What is max (safe) boost for an HX35 on a basically stock truck (stock long block) used primarily for towing?
Thanks again for your help.

go buy a 1/8npt plug for $1 and save your money. i have the xzt+ with rv275's and can't get the boost any higher than 30psi - which is still within the safe range for the stock turbo.
i have been told and have read many recommendations on here to keep it under 37psi.
i was worried about spiking my boost with the plug in, but that is not the case until i start to add more fuel . . .

it is only good for the turbo's with a soft line to the wastegate. i know mine is a soft line but i never know what years got what turbos' and which tranny's got which turbo's.
just look at your turbo and find the wastegate line, if it's soft, then the elbo WILL work. if it's hard, i think the j-hook is your best bet.
i'm sure someone will chime in and save you a trip to look under your hood . . .

Thanks for the help and education - now I know enough to be dangerous - . Just ordered the XZT+. I'll pick up a 1/8 plug on the way home. Also oredering isspro guages - just need to decide on #40 of #60 boost guage. If 37 is max for the hx35 doesnt the #40 guage seem correct?
