Bombing decrease reliably?

What do yal think?

I mean if you are runnin safe boost pressures, safe EGTS, and have a tranny (auto or manual) that will hold the power, do you think it takes some life out the truck.

Lets also say the truck has a flawless service record and it maintained very well.

Well I would think that the level of power is also going to play a determining role on the life of the engine as well as how hard you drive. Since you didnt specify what you did or have in mind. Low level of modifications would result in stock life span but MEGA power would significantly reduce that.

Just modify it.
Don't worry, it will all be ok.

Increasing power levels does reduce engine life span obviously. But, in the cummins, i believe that even though the higher hp level you reach the shorter the life span, it will still last ALOT longer than a similar gas engine such as a v-8 at the same hp levels. Technicaly, if you had 800hp, unless you have it sitting on a dyno all the time running at max hp, your acually only using a little bit of hp 95% of the time. So, bomb on!!!

If you drive sensibly more hp will make the engine last longer since to stay at the speed you want to go you can run at lower rpms since not as much downshifting is required.
Keep in mind that CTD has been down tuned by Dodge to get the tranny and drivetrain though warranty and eliminate the need for a pyro. You can buy the same engine in a marine version with 150 hp more stock.

You've got to think a dragster can make 7000 hp............ for a 1/4 of a mile

I'm going to echo Bill's comments. In the stock Dodge form, the Cummins is detuned to preserve other driveline components. I firmly believe that adding a few extra ponies, especially if you tow very heavy, will contribute to longer engine life. Adding power does require a change to maintenance habits though. More frequent oil changes, with higher quality oils than what Dodge specs is definitely a must.

Now, if you turn up the wick to 600 HP, and you're constantly into the go pedal, you're going to knock miles off the life of the engine, especially if you ignore high EGTs or don't change the maintenance schedule to match your driving.
