Boy, I need one these bad. Even moderate rowing through the gears can result in some wicked barks. I can even time it as I am passing someone and shifting from 4th to 5h. Right as I come up on their left side I let off to shift and BAM. It's something that is much worse now with Mach6s and the 66 than it was with the 4s and B1-2. I'd like to eliminate it if possible and reducing spool up time after shifts would be icing on the cake. Is the BD unit worth the $$ and is it effective? Thx

Totally agree with gotdiesel!!! Any turbo charged truck, car, whatever would benefit having a blowoff. The boost pressure built up inside the turbo has nowhere to escape to therefore causing the shudder and the bark from the compressor wheel coming to a sudden stop because of to much pressure built up. With the blowoff it vents the pressurized air into the atmosphere allowing the compressor wheel to spin freely eliminating the abrupt stop thus allowing it to build boost quicker. And as for the BD BOV, I have no clue how well it works, but it should work in theory!!

I agree I want a BOV too. But just curious to know why the Cummins engineers decided not to put one on this engine.

Anyone here have a BOV? What brand/model/etc.?

I know a guy who has a BD BOV. It works really well. He was playing in the mud rowing the gears pretty hard and it never barked or studdered once. He was really abusing it..

Because a stock engine does not need one!! Did your truck bark the turbo when it was stock?

Also, all turbo charged SI engines have blow off valves because they also have a trottle body. As diesels are unthrottled the engine is always consuming air so in a stock configuration the pressure built up is not that great!!
