Bilstein 5100

Can anyone tell me if your truck needs to be raised to use this shock, or will the stock height accomodate them? I can't really tell from the websites. It seems to imply that they need to go only on a raised truck, but I have seen them advertised for varying degrees of raise, i.e. 0-1", 1-2, etc.

I was told they will fit.. they'd better.. I have a set sitting here on the floor... cheapest place I found was ajusa.com... The backs were on back order... only have the fronts here.. if it keeps raining.. I guess I'll let you know if they fit...

Yup....5100 Series is what you want.
BE 52549 is # for stock front end on CTD
BE 56681H5 is # for front with 2" or 3" lift (leveling kit).
Don't know #'s for rears...I prefer my Rancho 9000's for adjustability.
PS - Bryan - If shocks sit on shop floor as long as DSS...they will be antiques when installed

It's kind of confusing.... to me anyway??

OK RJ.. it didn't take me a year this time... (Thought I was going to at least get the DSS installed.. but not this time.. haha.)
I did get the 5100's installed... For as easy as shocks should be to install.. those are a pain.. backs were easy.. except for the bolt that would come out because of the stablizer bar.. The fronts were a little tougher.. mainly the drivers side.. Installing shocks.. I guess all the shocks I've installed have had the hold down strap that went on either side of the mount post.. this way you could put all the mount parts (washer and rubber gromet) on first, then cut the strap and let it put it self into place.. on the Bilstein's the strap goes over the end where the washer goes.. so you have to cut the strap to install the parts...
Notes for next time..
Jack up the front of the truck on the frame for easy installation...
Try gluing the washer and rubber to the top mount, then cut the strap once the bottom is bolted inplace..
I really haven't but any miles on them yet.. just a quick up and down the road.. I figured most that were doing the 1-2 spacers were not moving the axles stopps so the stopping point would be the same..
If the stockers made it 173K.. the Bilsteins should last forever... haha..
