I see it everywhere and i am in the market for a new trannie (Goernd is what im looking at) but i have yet to see any explination about what it is or means. its expencive so it must be good, i just dont want to waste money. $5500 for a full billet trannie with flex plate is worth it but an i wasting money on a word or name?
Can anyone explain or elaberate on this please.
Thanks

What follows is a very lame explanation take at own risk>
From what I understand billet usually means it is machined out of a solid piece of metal (ingot). It is stronger than cast I think. I Don't know if forged metal would be stronger or not.

Billet means a solid piece of stock. This means a billet trans will have solid machined pieces as opposed to stamped, cast, or pressed parts. Much stronger than any stamped or pressed parts and it allows the natural grain structure of the metal (or material) to remain intact.

In the long run If you plan on more power and any racing or pulling the extra $$$ will definetly be worth it. A new tranny from any of the reputable names will definetley make a big difference on even a moderatly modified truck.
