big snow tires?
hey all,
i currently have 36x14.50R16LT's on my 2500. it's got a pretty big lift, maybe six inches? anyway, they're clearly too wide to do well in snow, but i know some extra width adds stability considering the lift. so i'm wondering if anyone could recommend how narrow i might be able to go in a similar height tire without losing too much stability. also looking for a good snow/ice tread. any suggestions?
thanks

That's a tough one. As you know most of the bigger tires have big lugs that leave you with large flat areas contacting the surface. (bad)
I had bad luck in the snow with BFG Muds. They did very well in deep snow or on hard ground with snow, but once I got them out on freshly plowed streets or any kind of slick stuff it was all over.

My problem is mainly with slushy roads.
Cars leave these nice narrow tracks, then I come through and 1/2 the tire on each side is hanging over into the slushy stuff,
impossible to keep the truck going straight, it pulls to the right slush, then to the left slush.
If it is virgin snow, no problem.
If it's hard packed, no problem.
I can't risk my truck looking goofy going to smaller tires in the winter.

I just put super swampers 38x12.50x16.5 on 10x9.75 rims and plow with them.I had S.S. befor and like them in the snow a lot.I like the 12.50 with with big lugs.My friends say you want to get right down to the road, but if the tires spins a little you make ice.with the big lugs it will grip and grab the snow which will give you beter traction if you don't wot just go easy.My frends don't beleve me but 3 times had to pull them out of a ditch(had to go in the ditch to get them out)
just make sure you have a full tire print on the road and not just the center
f-55psi plow on f-65psi
r-25psi plow on r-25psi
