Big Fuel Question

i am kinda new to the diesel world but love it, but here is my ? Instead of buying expensive boxes is it possible to just do fuel adder system with a small pump and just shoot diesel fuel in the air intake like a NOS system?

first of all welcome to DTR

i honestly don't think thats a good idea, first of all what kind of truck do you have, and what kind of power do you want to make, do you pull, race, tow or is it just a daily driver. need to fill out your sig. so we know what you have.

Noooooooooooooo!!!!

Hugely big bad idea. Cheap proof of this would be to fill your lawn mower 1/2 full of diesel while it's running. Even @ 8:1 compression it will preignite and distroy the engine. Diesel has a lower ignition temperature (lower octane rating) then gasoline and will lite off well before it should. The reason you can run water/methanol injection or propane injection on a diesel is because you are putting them in there in a lean condition, fully vapourized. Diesel dosen't vapourize well because it's boiling point is so high, so when you slobber diesel (engine oil, WD40) into the intake, even if it is a lean fuel air mixture, it can still preignite on the surface of the droplets and cause bad things to happen. (Thats the reason why a diesel can run at 70:1 air fuel mixture. Well below the lower explosive limit of diesel. Ignition takes place at the surface of the micro droplets made by the injector as they flash to vapour due to the high temperature of compression.) Too much propane can be a bad thing as well. I had to laugh when some guy on a weekend truck show explained to just hog out the propane nozzle to make more power. Not even a mention that with more fuel came greater risk of preignition. Maybe someone actually figured out that a nozzel that delivered 50% of the lower explosive limit was safer then a nozzel that delivered 75% or 80% of the LEL when the propane regulator sticks open. It's not pretty when you actually pass the magic preingintion line with propane and blow the head off or bend a con rod. You'll notice on the water/meth sites there are safe levels to mix your own juice too, as well as maximum spray rates. Buying a system may cost you 100's of dollars, but those systems all started from Good Idea's that went into test labs to monitor the resultant fuel air mixtures, or right into trucks that took the brunt of the testing, and then they were proven on the road up to and including blown up engines. You can invest into a System or you can build your own, but now your truck is the guinea pig. Last time I saw a guy say "Squeal Like A Pig", the "Guinea Pig" defineatly took the brunt of the experiment.

Sorry for that answer.

Wasn't trying to be a weiner. By more than a little personal experience I've learned there are no stupid questions, only costly assumptions. I've been helped out here tons. The knowlege base here is huge and more then generous. I was just worried you were gonna have to drop another $10 grand when you bent some internals. I saw a video of a hummer that had rolled over and the engine "ranaway" because the engine oil started coming up past the rings and through the valve seals. It looked neat, but it always does when someone else is paying the tab. Now ya owe me a beer. Just kidding.

think of it this way, yes a box or programmer is expensive, but look at it this way, say you buy a quad race box for about 400 dollars - haven't checked prices recently - bam, you got about 140 rwhp out of it, right off the bat, no cam swap. Now if you were to try to get that much performance out of a gasser you are talkin cam supercharger intake exhaust and you still might not make it, and you are out close to 4,000 dollars
