BHT3B vs. BHT3E

Hi does anybody, what the difference is between these two big rig turbos are?
BHT3B and the BHT3E.

I found some used ones, and found more of the BHT3E.... can it be used in compounds?
I know that the mayority uses the BHT3B for the twins setup.

another question. if a turbo is oily, in the back housing, does that mean its bad? its even oily in the mouth (where the manifold bolts on) could it have been coming out of the engine? or is it a bad turbo?

I think the 'E' is a bit smaller. I also 'think' member Swank is running one as a big charger on his first gen, but if I remember correctly, he was looking to go bigger. On the oily turbo topic, I would personally consider it a builder if it has oil residue inside the exhaust housing. It'd be cheap insurance to re-seal it before you spend all that time fabbing up brackets etc, only to find you have a twin turbo runaway

Edit: found his comment...

we have the brackets and everything done for twins, that same thing happened to us, we bought an used turbo, that passed oil through, so we need to replace that with a good 1 now

thanx.

Its only smaller by less than 2mm on the exhaust wheel.. and has different size housings available than the B.. I also think the way the housing are held on is different.. (its been a few months.. ) The E is same as an HT60....

ya, the only reason i think i'll be outgrowing that turbo is because real soon i should have access to enough fuel for 600+ hp. right now, at the 4-450 hp level, i push 60 psi real easy, and the drive pressure is way up. my 3E has a really small exhaust housing though, i might just try moving up a couple sizes on both turbos. i think an external gate would do me wonders as well.

there, i quoted ya. i think i'm running a 22 housing. a 27 would prolly be pretty bad** with a 14 on top. and an external gate. it'll all have to wait a while though. maybe this winter if i go to school.

Drive pressure is the pressure inside the exhaust manifold.

I think the HT3B should be OK, PDR uses them in there two smaller sets of twins kits.

HTT told me that the only difference between HT3B and BHT3B was that the BHT3B had a divided throat on the exhaust housing entrance and the HT3B has an open throat= more ideal for second turbo. I asked about the "B" meaning broader map width due to extra vents on the compressor inlet and HTT said NO!

Take it for what it's worth, HTT does sell HT3B's so I hope they are familiar with them.
