BHAF or Scotty II?
Which one do you think is the better of the two. I hear BHAF can be around $270-$300 range and the Scotty II is around $200. What kind of drop in EGT's did you notice? Thanks for you opinion.

Re:BHAF or Scotty II?
kinda embarrassing to ask this question as ive been hangin around here for awhile, but what exactly does a BHAF involve? from my understanding its a big rig filter with a homemade heat shield?????? how much does puttin one of these in cost and wahts the shield made of? wish i could afford a scotty but w/ tuition money is sorta tight...

Re:BHAF or Scotty II?
KATOOM,,,
The BHAF is not even close to being that price! I paid $27.00 (twenty seven dollars) for mine. They range from around that to $50.00 depending on where you buy them.
With that said, the BHAF is a paper element filter which will eventually have to be thrown out and buy another. It helped lower my EGT's about 100 degrees when towing the 5er.
The Scotty II on the other hand, will lower the EGT's even more and it is reusable.
I hope to get a Scotty II when my funds permit but at the time,,,,,, the BHAF was a great improvement over the stock airbox. If you have the funds now,,,,, I would say "Get the Scotty II" ;D
Re:BHAF or Scotty II?
Here's the numbers for the BHAF in the different brands.
Fleetgard # AH19037
NAPA # 2790
Wix # 42790
Donaldson # B105006
Baldwin # PA2820
Duralite #542790
I will still get a Scotty II in the future, but right now,,,, I have too many toys to try and spread my allowance out on!

I echo RattlinRam's statement completely. I have the BIG HONKIN' AIR FILTER (Napa variety). But when I can, I'll move on up to the Scotty II.

Heat shield material? I used 1/8 Diamond Plate Aluminum. Works and cuts easily. See attached photo for my BHAF. Note that the heat shield also make a good place to attach some other items.

~Dave

Re:BHAF or Scotty II?
Note that NWDAVE's setup is VERY nice, but some hot under-hood air is still able to get into the intake.
You have to decide what you will spend now for a BHAF versus the Scotty II- filter, material for shield, labor, pre-filter (?). It could easily be half of the price of the Scotty, doesn't that just put you farther away from it?
Of course, maybe you don't need the extra cool air...

Re:BHAF or Scotty II?
ScottyII, During my Tests Under Heavy towing I saw more than 200 Deg better Egt Reduction verses the BHAF. This was with the ScottyI the New one is even better

Now to be fair I ran no heatshield. I did run 4 Different Temperature probes. And documented / Posted the data a year or more back. You must draw 100% of your air from outside of the Engine for maxium EGT reduction. ANY Heated air you draw in your turbo Multiplys that by 200% to 400%.

I saw under hood temps During Hard pulls go up over 70+ Degress f. You can do the math.
This was at 70 to 75mph.

The Cummins engineers have stated that for every deg's F of change in the intake charge it effects your EGT's by 1.4 deg's F.

Not to mention robbing you of some HP!!

Re:BHAF or Scotty II?
Thanks Scotty. Do you have any photos, install docs, or pricing ? I poked around on a website a week ago or so but found more information on a weight lifting event than the air filter box ??? I've actually never even seen a scotty system - but they are getting such good reviews by those who have them, I'm highly interested. I will be doing something with the intake - so I'd like to check out your stuff.
Thanks,
Rob

Same here Scotty, I will be looking at doing the same at little after tax day. I need to know the price and how involved the installation is, as well as the replacement filiter cartridges' price and part numbers...
