In my case, stock, I doubt it does anything. But it makes the truck sound You get an appreciation for the amount of air the engine gulps under heavy throttle.

I had the BHAF on mine for over 30k miles and while it is gray, it's still working just like day one. And this is after being exposed to a bunch of water, dirt roads, etc. I just recently went to a Scotty 2 and man that thing is awesome. You can really hear the turbo on now.

Or better yet, drill a couple 1/2 inch holes in the heatshield and insert those mushroom thingys into it.
Then thread them onto the studs, just like the stock airbox.

That's what I did, now the heatshield is pretty sturdily mounted to the fender.

( <--- as always, pics in album)

I like my BHAF, need to build a heat shield. Got the template just not the time. It decreased EGTS and increased turbo whistle . Well worth the time, which is about 5-30mins (i had to make an adapterfor mine)

I have pics in my gallery as well.

I didn't cut anything firewall or fender wise.
Pulled everything related to the stock airbox and tossed it on a shelf in the garage.
Except for the little rubber mushroom mounts that I installed in the heatshield.

You do not have to cut the firewall for a BHAF. I suppose you could, though.

You can do that, but the area of the filter media is nowhere near the surface area of the BHAF. The BHAF also holds quite a bit more dirt before needing replacement. If you search BHAF by posts started by me, you will find all the specs. I got them off the phone right from Fleetguard.

Rusty, they must have changed the insert design. The tip of the inserts on mine are capped preventing them from being installed upside down.
