BHAF Replacement

Those of yall who are running the BHAF, how often do yall replce it? How can you tell when it needs to be replaced? Mine's starting to get very gray. I've got probably 20,000 miles or so on it. Thanks for the help.

Re:BHAF Replacement

Should still be fine, IMHO. THere is a lot of filter material there. Why don't you drill a hole and install the filter minder?

Re:BHAF Replacement

Don't really trust that thing. I ran the truck once with no air filter in the box and it still got pulled down. And that's when the truck was dead stock (save exhaust). I didn't do that for long. Just a quick jaunt around the neighbor hood.

Re:BHAF Replacement

Id like to switch to one too after deciding a K&N probably isnt the best way to go....how often should the BHAF's be replaced? 6 months normal driving? Every oil change? every second oil change?

Re:BHAF Replacement

Well, I've gone almost 4 or 5 oil changes with mine. Countless dirt roads, a couple rivers (flooded streets over the top of the rim), rain, sand, you name it. EGT's are still the same and it is just now starting to get gray. This thing lasts forever. I was just curious as to how often people change their's out.

Re:BHAF Replacement

It should last a year then....roughly the same price as 2 drop-ins. Sounds like a good investment to me.

Re:BHAF Replacement

I might as well chime in.

Have had mine for 2,000 miles, still white as the driven snow. :

I also have an Outerwears pre-filter on it, so it should last twice as long.
Keeps the water and big chunks away from it.

Re:BHAF Replacement

Phox - the prefilter is a great idea. Similar to the foam on some of the drop ins.

obivously there's a line to be crossed, but a dirty air filter (not too dirty) filters better than a new one. it all depends how dirty it is...

Is that statement as true for dry paper filters as it is for oiled foam/gauze filters?

My main reason for the prefilter is to keep water off, since the BHAF is sitting out in the open unprotected in the engine bay.

Re:BHAF Replacement

When I installed my BHAF I removed the filter minder from the stock filter box, drilled a hole in the hose from the turbo to the BHAF and installed it there. Only had it on a couple weeks but seems to work fine.

Re:BHAF Replacement

I replaced mine at about 30,000 the first time. It was gray. Now I put the filter minder on my PVC adaptor and i'm sure I'll go a little longer. First put it on at about 15,000. These filters are huge. I am at 65,000 now. Probably go with a scotty2 next if I can scrape the coin.
