BHAF mount

Hey guys, I've already fabbed up this http://www.cumminsdatabase.com/read.php?id=15 heat shield and got the prefilter and filter on order but I'm trying to understand what keeps the filter from just layin on the heat shield. Oh, and just to make sure...I used some 1/8" aluminum that I had layin around for the heat shield, is that ok? Thanks guys!

When they "borrowed" that template from here, they left out a couple little pieces.

Just L brackets with a slot drilled in them, then riveted to the heat shield.
Important: They guy that made mine for me put the brackets on backwards, the should be facing the other way, the way they are, my BHAF sits on top of them, so there's a 1/2 space underneath the BHAF, which probably isn't a bad thing, except the brackets could damage the BHAF under very bumpy situations.
2 of the biggest hose clamps Home Depot had, then put together to make one big enough to encircle the BHAF.

I used the "mushroom nuts" from the stock airbox, drilled 1/2 inch holes in the heat shield, then mounted it just like the stock airbox was.

Hose clamps keep it from bouncing around.

I used two pieces of foam with double sided tape on the bottom, contoured them so the filter would rest in there nicely and layed it in. Got somewhere around 12,000 miles on the BHAF and still in the same spot.

Don't these filters expand and contract in diff situations? If so would the hos clamps restrict that? Thanks for the pics Phox that's exactly what I was lookin for...

Mine bounced around quite a bit so I put a gusset in the "L" of the heat shield to make it more ridgid. The underside of the heat shield also hit the shock bolt so I had the machinist make me a sleeve of teflon that slips over the bolt and lets the heat shield ride on it and not get a hole poked into it. Works great.

I bolted down my heat shield with ordinary nuts. Then cut a piece of 3/4 hardwood the size of the bolt pattern. I drilled holes where the bolts were and countersunk the topside. Slid it over the studs and secured with washers and nuts. The filter just rides on the hardwood and because it is raised when you close the hood the insulation puts slight pressure on it and holds it in place.

They shouldn't.

They are made of pretty stout rubber/plastic material.
