BHAF installed

Well let me just say that this thing is LARGE and pictures just wont do this filter justice. lol I got the filter from www.fleetfilters.com and it was $29.?? plus shipping and everywhere else I checked they want $50+.

The BHAF made the turbo a little louder and you can deffinently here this thing sucking. Also my truck seems to cool down a wee bit quicker, which is good as I always let the truck cool before shutting it down.

Here are some pics. I can take better ones upon request.

Made out of 22gauge steel, cut out with a angle grinder and cleaned the edges up with a roto zip. The heatshield is painted with silver krylon wrinkle finish. Also I would recommend the heatshield to anyone with a BHAF and I would not run one with out it.

Deffinently the best bang for the buck air intake as it cost me less than 70 bucks for my whole setup. Next I'm working on a custom "torque tube" for it.

Let me know what you think. Oh and an outerwears will be on the way this week.

Did you download the template off of here? Do is see a mis-aligned hole there? I had to open up one of my holes, either the template or my marks were off a bit?
Are you worried about rust?

i just put on my BHAF...then brought the truck to the carwash to get the salt off of it. BE CAREFUL as the high pressure from the carwash (or even a pressure washer at home) sprays between the hood and fender and gets it wet! maybe another shield for the outside of it to keep it dry.

just a heads up...

Yeah I had a feeling that was going to happen and thats why I'm about to call Outerwears so I can fix this problem.

As for the "torque tube" goes I'm really not sure what I want to do as of right now, I'm still trying to think of some ideas. Do you have any thoughts on one? Also I'm not even sure a "torque tube" would even help at all, but who knows.... All comments are welcome or most of them anyway.

Oh and P.J. YES you do see a misaligned hole. I used the template from Diesel Minded from TDG.com. It wasn't off by too much.

On the Torque Tube tip, I was just wondering if you had any fittings or materials in mind. I have seen some of the 3rd Gen guys building them, but theirs doesn't make such a harsh turn.

For your torque tube set up, check out some medium and heavy trucks. Most use a piece together set up with rubber elbows and aluminum tubes. It would take some work and a very patient parts guy to find the right combination of parts, but I think it could be done. Maybe see if your local truck dismantler would let you look around the yard.
