The only prob with a BHAF is you're suckin hot air. If you've got big fuel the BHAF doesn't flow enough (so says got...DIESEL?) air at higher rpm's. What got...DIESEL? ended up doing is putting the k&n cone filter back on but he made a cold air box. What he did was use a group 27 marine plastic battery box cut the appropriate holes in it then cut a 4" hole in the firewall to draw cold air from the vent by the w/wipers via some 4" ducting. Now he can't hit over 1250* floored. Cold air to the compressor makes a huge difference on the EGT gauge, hence the scotty series of filters. My only problem is I don't like the reusable oiled air filters (k&n), had oil on the inducer. I'd like to use a big CFM conventional filter, but those are typically 24" long for a pete or k/w or f/liner, until then a BHAF will have to do.
Anyone done any research on a non-oiled reusable high cfm filter?

And, you can buy just the filter if you dont want a whole intake.

I think the rule I've read about air filters is if you are under 350RWHP, you can get away with the stock air box. Some guys "swiss cheese" their factory box to get more air. I wanted to get my air and exhaust mod's out of the way since they are cheap and easy, so I switched over to a BHAF.

Most people seem to think that K&N isn't the best choice for a Diesel. If it is even slightly over-oiled, the excess oil can get on the fins of the turbo and collect dust. BHAF is a "good" idea in my opinion. It's cheaper than Scotty or AFE systems and flows almost as much. Some will argue about it's worth, as it is not cleanable like the others. If you use a Outerwears (like myself and many others) the lifespan can be greatly lengthened. For $50.00 I was willing to try. Other filters/systems run from $230 up to about $400.00 (AFE Proguard 7 with torque tube).
As for flow, do a search. Air filters is a Big topic, covered by real life studies and lots of feedback. I'm not sure which one does what, but unless you are really high up in HP it doesn't matter much.

Check out the Link I provided before - the AEM Dryflow - flows more tha a BHAF and is washable. But, you dont have to worry about servicing it becasue it uses no oil. Basically, its a washable BHAF.
