Yes, I made a heat sheild. No, it is not a "clean and oil" piece of crap filter. Although Fleetgaurd does say that in a pinch, you could wash it off and reuse it, they don't recommend it. It's made out of synthetic fibers and uses no oil. Probably good for 100K or so.... but time will tell on that one.

I haven't tackled the moisture problem yet. What seal? Crushing? Mine just clamped right on. The flange and the filter end cap are one piece molded on mine.

How much difference does a heat shield make. I'm not running one now.

Also, just as a reference, my maximum boost went from 33 PSI to 38 PSI after adding the BHAF. The old filter was a stock air box with a K&N.

I was under the impression that a piece of pvc pipe of some size was needed to go into the flange of the filter to keep it from collapsing?? If memory serves, the one I seen was using the stock air tube from the turbo and the stock tube was clamped onto the filter, so I guess I am confused on one thing, how do you clamp the filter on?? Thanks,,,,, Goodluck,,Rick

Kandgo, the filter has about 2" of "pipe" sticking out the end. That just happens to be the perfect size to fit where the rubber hose meets the stock air box. No modifications are needed. Just pull the hose, pull the air box, and put the BHAF in place of the air box. As far as somebody collapsing one of these, I can't say for sure, but, I don't believe a single turbo would have the ability. The pleats in the media are about 2" deep and the filter just fits under the hood. You probably have AT LEAST 4 times the filter media that you have with a filter to fit the stock location. That sucker is BIG!!

MnTom

I think he was referring to the part where the air hose meets the filter, crushing the neck of the BHAF.

I am going to town tomorrow and will stop by napa. Where are the outerwears found at, any web sites?? Mntom I was thinking I remember reading on here somewhere that a piece of pvc was needed to insert inside the flange of the bhaf but I could be mistaken. Thanks and Goodluck,,Rick

Rick you are correct - some time ago there was some discussion regarding the normal BHAF collasping in damp environments. I believe the marine version has metal mesh on the inside to keep it from collapsing (as well it has waterproof filter media). Anyway, I believe the gist of the discussion was that it may be a good idea to have a short peice of internal support such as a PVC pipe or metal tube with a bunch of holes drilled in it for support.

You can order a prefilter directly from:
