I have been trying to price a BAHF (Wix 42790) online. The trouble I am having is every parts house wants to know what vehicle it is for or the original application. I found one parts house that e-mailed me with a price of $41.85 plus 6.95 shipping. All of the parts houses in my local area want 53.00. Can anyone tell me what the original application is or steer me to a place I can get a filter without giving up my only child. Another thing, is there any big difference in quality. I think Wix 42790, Napa 2790 and Carquest 87790 are probably the same since their numbers are similar. Donaldson B15006, Baldwin PA 2820 and John Deere PMAH19037I have no idea.

I'm running the Donaldson, Si on my last oil analysis was fine. I paid a little over $50 locally, so the prices you're being quoted aren't unusual.

Just picked up a Wix 42790 from Bumper to Bumper today, $52.38, had to order it, but they got it in two days. Dude asked what it was for and I told him to nevermind just order it....so he did. Kind of used to my asking for peculiar parts by number and not telling what the application is for by now though.

But the poor kid that was working the counter when I showed up...thought his eyes were gonna pop right outta his coconut when i opened the box (to make sure it was the right one), biggest filter he'd ever seen...

No clue to what they were 'supposed' to fit besides the CTD's

BHAF is a big paper filter correct? in this case bigger is not better . air flowwwwwwwwww get a cold air kit AFE , SCOTTY 2 etc you will notice much better performance and the filter will go a lifetime with regcharging. usually about 189.00 most places call ted jannetty racing one of the sponsers here tell them you know someone who has dealt with them ( me ) Michael Gardner and they should give you 10 % off and no tax. if not ask them for a deal I did and it worked

I asked what it was used in when I bought mine from a Cummins dealer, the guy working the parts desk didn't know. I would imagine its for the ISB in other applications other that our Rams, like in a large forklift or a tractor. Probably also used in similar sized diesel engines.

I've heard forklift's with the ISB use them, as well as Generators.


Regarding Floormans comments:

Yup, I know the BHAF doesn't flow as well as some of the other aftermarket setups out there,
AFE, Scotty II, dare I say K&N

I am one that doesn't want to deal with the aftermath of an improperly oiled filter,
be it too much oil, or not enough.
Also the hassle of cleaning and recharging them.
And, have heard tell that the ultra fine stuff gets through those "free flowing" filters.

As I don't currently have anything to tow, and don't see anything in my driveway anytime soon,
the BHAF was the obvious choice.
Anything is better than poorly sealing, restrictive stock airbox.

Maybe, someday if I'm ever heavily fueled and towing heavy,
I might have to look into something else to manage the EGT's.

For now, I'll take the BHAF.

Got a Fleetguard from the local Cummins....$52, made a heatshield, and put an Outerwears pre-filter on. Together with the straight pipe, it sounds sweeeeeeeeeeeet !

Just finished installing the BHAF and heat shield. Super snug fit to the turbo intake hose, don't expect that'll come loose. Heat shield courtesy of DPG's template (thanks Dude!) and the side of an old large steel tower computer case, best use that thing has served in over 10 years besides an endtable Total construction and install time <3 hours including dry time on paint, used black high temp grill paint.

Now the hard part of waiting till morning to take her first run being able to really breathe (can't wait to hear the turbo's song).

Do yourself a favor and get the Outerwares pre-filter like Phox's.....

Yes, always follow the Dr's orders.

It will pay for itself 5 times over with the extra miles you will get out of the BHAF.
Might even save your turbo if the BHAF ever gets a big splash of water.
