You need to at least 5 meals a day. start out with carbs and gradually cut them out as you go though the day. once you get to your 3 meal you shouldnt have any carbs in the meals. this should help. but dont cut carbs out totally, thats the best way to get sick and weak.

The most important thing is to eat the 5-6 small meals a day like these guys said. Digestion burns mucho calories and as long as you don't "overeat" you will watch it fall off. Mix weights and cardio in the mix and it will double the effect. If you do not have time to lift, make sure and eat breakfast and at least jog sometime throughout the day. You will be surprised how much a 20 min jog/run will enhance the effects. Lifting, however; boosts the metabolism longer than cardio, so if you lifted in the morning it would set the tone for the entire day. This coming from a guy who is 6' 215 benching 380lbs. I am not a big cardio guy but I mix it in w/my workout. If you need a workout schedule shoot me a pm. BEST OF LUCK! Oh and I still maintain a healthy BEER DIET.....

Good luck APC
It's tougher when your in the over 40 club!
Bosshawg is right....no magic...just takes less calories! Trick is the least painful way to reduce the # of calories a day.

I'm 6'-8" and recently went from 280 to 260 lbs in six weeks eating only Stoeffers Lean Quisine Meals...5 a day...staying under 1300 calories total each day.....with no alcohol. Was not that hard, after the first week...but it's not for everyone!
Find what works for you and STAY WITH IT!!!

I lost 34 lbs last year eating 4 oz lean protein and a cup of complex carbs or fruit every 2 1/2 - 3 hrs with a salad and/or veggies at lunch and supper. Nothing processed like bread or pasta. No fat. Very little dairy. Lots of white meat chicken and turkey. No butter or marg or oil. No egg yolks (high fat content). No sweet fruits as they contain a fair bit of sugar. No booze (I cheated on this part. ) All this with at least 120 oz of water a day.

A cardio workout that puts your heart-rate at about 70% of max (220-age) is suppose to burn fat the best. This is typically a brisk walk. The second half of a one hour workout is when you benefit the most. Eat before you workout so you've got some fuel to burn instead of fueling off of your muscles.

Don't weigh yourself every day. Once a week is good. I find I weigh less on tuesday morning rather than monday. Try not to let yourself get hungry as this puts your body into starvation mode and your metabolism slows down. You'll get into it once you've dropped a bit of weight. Good luck with it.

Forgot to add..........NO SALT

I suggest getting a Ford. Why you my ask? Because you cannot prevent the Inevitable, it will break down and leave you stranded. When you are stranded dont use your cell phone, jog to the tow truck company (although I would be on my way to sign it up for demolition durby). And constantly working on your truck would be a good work out to......

If you get the Ford, don't just walk to the tow company...push the truck there. Good cardio and you build muscles.

I'm right there with you on the weight loss thing. Finally got off my butt and started on it.

I'm 5'11" and started out at 340.6, down to 324.6 right now. I'm on a combination of the "don't eat so much you idiot", no fast food and no beer (it's tough) and walking/jogging 3.5-4 miles per day. Not to mention, enough water to float a small ship...

After you've done it for a couple of weeks, it's surprising how much it just becomes part of your lifestyle. Right now, I can't even imagine going to BK or McDonald's to grab a burger for lunch. I must have gone insane.

Just do what i did , get yourself a Girlfriend , it was the best thing i ever did , seriously.

I started dating a pretty attractive girl , she worked out occasionally, and ate right (she was 5'7 and 110 lbs). I went from over 220 (that's where i got off the scale) to my present 187 lbs. I have not been to Mcdonalds in over 3 years , or any other burger joint for that matter. I cut out almost all the junk food and soft drinks ( i still have the occasional hard one ) and i think the most important part , is i became alot more active , didn't matter what it was, it beat watching tv for at least 4-5 hours a day. I must say that i feel better now than i ever have , and i hope it continues.

This is it, case closed.
Now common sense also plays in, protein, non-processed grains, FISH, lean ground beef if you must have it, etc.

Good Luck!

I think you missed the point. He HAS a woman, if he doesn't trim up, she's gonna find a new man who will. (or something like that).

Or he gets a girlfriend and all the extra stress and running around to take care of two women will cause the pounds to drop right off.

I have kept track of this thread since it started, and I think that some very good advice has been given. I am not a wee fella by no means either.

I am 6' and about 245Lbs. I work out regularly, and although I am not fat, I am not lean either. I have a bad background as far as genetics go as my pop and bros all are well short and a little chunky. Dad was in great shpae during his 50's and my brother who owns a machine shop is pretty descent, but they all had that lil belly that is hard to get rid of.

I found a solution to my problem. I work in an office all day which kills me, but money is great and i can get outdoors after work.

So I started a new routine. When I go to the gym, I start off with stretching of course, don't want to tear up my 24 year old frame and joints by not letting them warm up. I do my weight lifting routine. Usually takes about 45 mins to hit two major body parts, and also do auxillary exercises to hit the little muscles that control and aid those body parts.

I work out with a couple of guys from work, and they are on a lower level as far amount lifted goes, so I am kinda own my own till we get done lifting weights. I work out at the YMCA and they have a racquetball court which is our next thing. We go and play three or four games which takes about another 45 mins.

After that they are thru, and go home. Here is where I lost 25 Lbs in a month, and had not Thanksgivng programs at church, and Christmas floats for work gotten in the way, I am positive I would have made my 220 goal in no time. I go back in to the fitness center, and get on an eliptical trainer and keep my steps around 180 to 200 a min. I stay on this thing for 20 mins at that pace. Start with 10 mins and work your way up. This melts the fat off of you. When I am done at the end of the workouts I am drenched in sweat, and have to mop the florr under the machine, because of the huge puddle of sweat that is there.

Combine all that to a lean protein diet with minimal carbs, and you will deffinately make your goal. keep in mind that if you have not worked out, you can plan on losing 10-15 Lbs of water weight.

I started out at 260 Lbs, And got down to 233 before all the chaos started in the holiday season Thanksgiving through Christmas. I am at 245 now even through all these eating gatherings.

Why don't you post a before pic, and keep us updated. You are gonna hit sppots where the weight will not come off, and it looks like we even have great advice from the guys here on how to maybe work through those spots. Cause the body does acclimate to new routines that it daily encounters.

Good Luck.

Dang, think I need to get a publisher for this book i just wrote..

I do it every year...I am 6ft and around 220 lbs in the winter 10-11% bf and in the summer when I race I try to get down to 170lbs which is usually around 7%bf. I carry a decent amount of muscle and work out 5 days a week so it is hard to drop weight with out loosing muscle along with fat.

In motorcycle racing they say 7 lbs = 1 hp...plus you dont get fatigued as easy. Just reduce your calories and increase your activities...there is no real secret to loosing weight except self control
