Best way to increase MPG??

Howdy, new here. I have had my 01 Ram 2500 (2wd) for a bit over a year now. Could not ask for a better truck with the exception of wanting better MPG..

I average around 18 mpg - 20% City/80% Highway miles. While that is good for a truck, would sure like to get better.

Also looking at upgrades to the shocks and rims.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks much

Koi Guy

You are getting respectable mileage. Just keep the rpm in the 1600-1800 range to get better mileage. The biggest thing a person can do to get better mileage though is to predict traffic. If there is a red light way down the road, start coasting. You can improve mileage in the city up to 30% by doing this.

That helps my mileage a bunch! I have seen/heard of people putting "crushable" objects on the skinny peddle (even heard of an egg) and just restrain themselves from rompin' on it to not break whatever they put on there, lol.

If your driving down the highway, find a car hauler trailer and just hitch a ride! lol 18 mpg is really respectable though. I usually get 14 or 15.

My 4X4 jumped from 18 to 21 hand calculated corected tire size and all after I put in the Quadzilla Xillaraider box which I run on the 30hp setting to pick up the mpg. Plus it makes it much more fun to drive cranked up!!

Since I've got my smarty I get 18.6 mpg hand calculated with my auto 4X4 mixed driving. I do usually run the speed limit plus tolerance, roughly 85mph on the highway and 68 mph on the side roads, including mountain driving.
One factor that's often overlooked is proper tire inflation. Other stuff that can help includes cleaning sensors and electrical connectors (made a big difference when I bought mine five years ago), good air and fuel filters, avoiding idle time and driving style.

HTH

Thanks guys. I looked at some of the performance mod's such as the Edge, but am still researching which, if any are best for overall performance.

other than driving style what I would suggest is a good aftermarket air filter, free flow exhaust, and maybe a FASS then if you want little more power over stock without breaking the bank one of these http://store.dieseltruckresource.com/quxzt98dodi.html

My Juice boosted my towing mileage up to 18.7 from 16.5 while dragging my boat around, which is almost always
