Question Best Way To Clean Block Prior To Headgasket?

Removed the head the other day due to a blown headgasket. I was wondering the best way to trmove any residue left behind from the old headgasket?

A razor blade works pretty well. Then follow up with steel wool (lightly) or a 3m scratch pad.

Here's what the head looks like. There was nothing really left from the head gasket except for the dark colored spots? Oops, I guess you can't double post the same picture???

I'm jumpin on the band wagon with the Razor blade and brite. Once I did that I took some starting fluid and washed the rest of it of as to make sure there wasn't anything left over.

Are light scratch's that you can see but can't feel ok? The scotchbrite is leaving behind light scratch's. I hope these pictures are ok?

Light scratches are ok just make sure you dont concentrate too much sanding in one area and create a low spot.

Don't worry about getting it perfectly clean...thats when the problems start. Just get it back to a good usable condition much of what appears to be material will be stained raw iron which is only cleaned when material is removed

that looks sharp. brakeclean the bolt holes and blow them out, then brakeclean the deck just before you reinstall the head and wipe with clean dry good cotton shoprags. don't leave lint behind. you should be rockin
