Best place to get replacement vp44
My vp44 is working fine , but want to know the best one avalible at this time. Who/what /where to get one when the time comes?
Mine is a '99 SO stock . Propably will only go with a EZ or Smarty later.
The guy at Source Automotive told me not to get the Hot Rod pump. Says SO pump is better ,they like the bosch replacement at $1100. Has upgraded parts.
Whats the scope on best/durable replacements now ?

Try Bluechipdiesel.com. I've heard good things about their pumps! UPS was having problems like all of us with vp44's. Blue chip built them a tougher pump with a better electronics board. They are supposed to hold up better. Check out their web site.
Good luck

Thanks Gary, I forgot about Bluechip. Got their web site. Looks like they have a upgraded vp44 with a New houseing, bronse/brass insert on the timming piston bore, new fedx reprogramed computer.
I also learned that poor fuel milage could be a worn VP44
Good info

Find a local dealer, so you don't have to deal with shipping if you have a problem with the unit:
http://www.boschservice.com/
All rebuilders use the same parts. Don't fall for the marketing of some. All of the rebuilt VP's get new housings, which are the same housings that EVERY rebuilder gets. Do some research and find out for yourself, I did!
All the PSG units (computer) are the same. Bosch didn't upgrade for FedEx, alone, that wouldn't make much sense.
I was able to get a rebuilt locally for under 1K ... with a one year warranty!
Good luck!

Internet info.............10% correct info......
Bosch will tell you there is a difference. A Bosch certified vendor rebuilt VP-44 is different then a Bosch vendor remanufactured VP-44. FedEx did hold Cummins accountable for VP-44 failures and there is a different VP-44 involved. That means different parts are available. A hotrod VP-44 is different then a SO VP or a HO VP. Which is "better" depends on usage and expectations. Do your homework in the industry not on the internet forums!!
But since this is a great CTD forum, who believes that there are good VP-44's but no GREAT VP-44??

But, Bluechip will warranty pumps with the wire tapped. However they only do this if you have their pump cover. That is what I was told by Chip himself and that is why I went with them. Gives you a little peice of mind.

I guess they've got to justify the extra dollars for something.

Doug Smith (a site sponsor) at Performance Diesel Warehouse carries the standard and HR-VPs from Industrial Injection & Turbo service.
Carrys them from? More middleman- more money. Id rather get one directly from the bosch sponsered rebuilder.
