To date, I have not gotten the milage gains of the Edge products with the Smarty or Van Aaken boxes.

If you have an EZ already, I would not get tempted to buy anything else. The EZ is failruy reliable and could easily be stacked with a TST.

Raw egg under the go pedal. Less than 1 US$, AlpineRAM's consulting fee .... say.... 299US$ so you're in the budget

this is a good thread....I also have a daily driven comuter truck, my '01 ctd. Looking to get some more mpg for it primarily, but also if I could have something that makes it move quicker from a standing stop (like at a light), seems like when it turns green it's sluggish. It's a stock '01 Auto LB truck with low miles, so it's not old or worn out but it feels bit sluggish, slow, not really effective when it first goes from a stop. So if there was something I could do to increase mpg AND solve this "sluggish from stoplight" condition that would be ideal for me!

Well, on a stock truck that is pretty easy to do. Any timing box should net more mpg and give you a good power gain.

OUr XZT+ is a little unique in the fact that it has a timing only setting that is awesome for mileage and a timing and fuel setting that will also gain mileage but, has a lot of power!

It is also USB updatable and there are many different tuning files you can try to get the exact drivability you desire. We have some that are a little touchy, some that are not. Some that smoke a lot and some that don't!

It takes about 15 seconds to update a new tuning file. It is pretty slick.

thanks quad...seems like you have a good product. how does the downloading files work with the 3 switch positions for the xzt+? I am probably going to do injectors down the road, something like RV275 or F1 M1 or 1.2 or 1.6...is this the time that I would consider some other files to suit my goals?

Yeah, To date, I've tried DD1 injectors, 2's, 3's, RV275's & stock of course.. Havent seen much difference in MPG's with any of them while driving normally. Maybe a slight increase w/ the 275's but it wasnt very much (maybe 1 mpg max at best)

Except for the doggy stock ones they have all run well. Just the more fuel you have the more smoke you get and oil gets dirtier quicker. Also, the heavier ones raise EGT's much quicker. Have to say the best overall running ones so far have been the 275's.. Very clean and smooth off the bottom, they run very cool and with a box, still get up and pull well. Cant believe I just sprung for a set of Mach 1's too!! Hey, gotta see if they're as good as people say.

Bottom line is as Fishin said, most of the improvements seen in MPG's have been with some kind of timing box or software. That also takes care of the "slug" problem out of the hole as well.. The 275's with any kind of timing adder box (Van Aaken, EZ, Smarty) are plenty snappy from a stop or while towing. They just dont have the brute power the bigger ones give when you roll it on..

I'm happy enough with my '03s power, but I'd dearly love to get my average mileage solidly into the 20s.

Alas my truck is STOCK, mainly because I can't afford to do anything else!

I've boosted my Tire Pressure right on up to 80 at all four corners, and I drive as though there IS an egg under the pedal!

I FEEL as though I am getting SOMETHING out of putting 22 ounces of TCW-3 and 8 ounces of Power Service Diesel Klean in with my fuel. Seems quieter and SEEMS to keep the overhead up a few tenths....

Interesting.. Just re-read this comment and goes along with my experience as well.

The Van Aaken gave great performance, but not much in fuel mileage increase. None of the injectors so far have made much difference in mileage either (still waiting to see what the new M1's are going to calculate to).

Might have to try an edge full-on EZ since im not finding the milder timing version (DD TTPM) yet.

Havent figured how to "stack" the MAP sensor connections with the Blue Chip APB pump wire tap box yet though. Seems like one will affect the others' readings if they are in series off the map sensor plug. Any suggestions?

Be very wary. I took a test drive and punched it looked down and saw the tach swinging towards 3500
There is a fuel saver mode too *yawn*

Dave's right. I've seen stacks like this make 3 hp. If you want to try something new you can sell the EZ and try something else or look for something that does fuel only like the tst box mentioned above.
