Best fuel pressure gauge
I've searched and about only info I have found is about some autometer fuel pressure gauges failing when running fuel into them. My room mate has a 98 24v 5 speed cummins with 200,000 miles. I warned him about lift pump failure issues and suggested a gauge. He isn't very mechanical so I am doing it for him. I was planning on running the gauge direct w/o isolater and have a ball valve or something to be able to shut off flow if need be. What brand of gauge seems to be the more reliable and long lasting? Color is no big deal or anything, just performance. Thanks.

1 1/2 years, no problems.
Many other have been running the same for 3+ years.

If he wants inexpensive here's an excellent USA made gauge

Use a needle valve in the install rather than a ball valve.

Got an old 30psi boost gauge laying around??? Pressure is pressure. You can use any pressure gauge for fuel pressure. 30psi boost gauges are cheaper than 30psi or 16psi fuel pressure gauges. I ran a couple 30psi boost gauges with live fuel for some time. Just don't do in on a mechanical engine. The pulses from the lift pump/camshaft will do in the gauge, NOT the fuel. I killed an Isspro FPG in less than two weeks with live fuel. Two Isspro ev boost gauges lasted longer than the FPG. ~ 2 months.

Same here, exactly.

If I had a manual transmission, I would have went with the Westach FP gauge on the A-pillar. Since I have an automatic, the only place left to put a gauge is in the cubby hole next to the radio. I went with the digital Nordskog FP gauge. You can easily see it at any angle, and it is bright enough during the day to see it, but not too bright at night to blind you. It reacts quickly, and almost matches the color of the instrument panel.

Same here, using no isolator or needle valve, for over 3 years now.

Getblown-
I used a tapped banjo at the VP44 inlet, to the needle valve, to 18" of 1/4 fuel hose, to 1/8 soft copper line to the gauge. The needle valve should be available at any hardware store. They're sometimes used to tap your water line for an ice maker.
