Best Fuel Mileage

Which will give you better fuel mileage? Higher rpm's say 1900-2000 with lower egt's or lower rpm's say 1500-1600 with higher egt's. The differance in egt's is about 200-300 deg's.

Unloaded, I see better mileage running lower rpm regardless of EGT readings.

Around here if your not running 70 you get pushed off the road. 65 - 70 for 15 miles one way between work and home I get 17 17.5 empty.

Higher EGT means rich fuel mixture. If you run the slightly higher RPM with lower EGT, you should have better mileage. I get the best mileage around the 1900-2100 Rpm mark in my 12V.

My 02 gets decent fuel mileage at 1600 rpm or 65 mph. Trouble I rarely drive that slow. 1400 rpm at 55 mph.

Just got home from town and need to fill soon . I have 684 km on this tank and show 1/4 tank yet , so I think I can get 760 Km on a tank . there was about 300 km on a short trip and the rest was just 20 km trips. I don`t think the newer Rams get this kind of fuel mileage .

My newer truck gets similar fuel mileage 5.9L (not stock like dog stated). I have had one tank on the new truck of 1100km's, but that was from very slow driving. The newer trucks have larger fuel tanks to make up for the poor stock fuel mileage.

Don't know about that.
I was driving an '02 down one of our passes here in the Rockies and the overhead said I was getting 62 mpg.

Don T, I had an experience like that last year. I was a little over 500 miles into a tank and it still showed 1/4 tank. I thought it was great until I ran out of fuel. Still need to fix that stinking fuel level sensor.

I managed 11.1 MPG pulling a 11.7K lb high profile fifth wheel last weekend. That was at 62MPH around 1700 to 1800 RPMs. EGT's around 1k deg. F. That was my best MPG's pulling the trailer yet.
