Benefits of BD/ATS/HTT exhaust manifolds?

Besides being stronger and having 3 piece design, are there any benefits to running one of these on a truck near 500hp? Do they help make more power? better spool? lower egt's? Thanks

theyre supposed to lower egts and help spoolup so I hear, but it cant be that significant.I think the main thing is that they will handle the additional heat without cracking /leaking

My stock one cracked, so I bought an ATS unit. Between that and ditching the muffler and straight piping my 4" exhaust, I noticed about a 50 degree drop. If the stock manifold didn't crack, I wouldn't have bought one.

I don't think it would. The main benefit I'm told is strength, especially if you are doing twins that hang a lot more weight on the manifold.

probably not going to help a stocker to much....I did notice a pretty good drop in my egts....my stock one got a hairline 1/2" crack and the crack seemed to get larger everytime i opened the hood.....If yours is cracking I would be planning to buy one soon

My turbo spools WAY faster with the ATS manifold. MY stocker was cracked almost in 2 pieces though, so that may have something to do with it.

With the comp on kill I could bury the pyro needle. Towing I had to be very careful and drive with one eye on the guage. Took the advice over on the Northwest Bomber Board and match ported everything. Took the gaskets and matched them to the manifold, opened up the manifold, took all the sharp corners out of the manifold, matched the manifold to the turbo, and opened up the channels in the turbo. The guage doesn't climb near as fast now and i'm lucky to get to 1400-1500 degrees. This was the best mod I've done for egt control. The manifold is so thick you can shape it the way you want it for better flow.

What did you use to port your manifold? How long did it take, and did all the metal shavings blow out of the turbo?

You're gonna wanna use an air die grinder, with some various bits for hogging and smoothing the metal out. Don't even bother trying to do this on a small compressor either, because they use some serious air and you'll end up waiting all day for the compressor to keep catching back up.

I used a cheapo long shank air grinder from harbor freight. It was like $30, about $40 for the polish set I got from summitt, and a few grinding stones and you'll be in business. The old man's shop has a large air compressor but if you take your time you can do it with a small compressor. I took the exhaust housing off the turbo. Just take all the bolts out and heat it up and it'll come right off. It did take me dang near all day though. But check out the Northwest Bombers Website and you'll get some good ideas.
