Bbrrrr it's cold!!

Forcasted low temp in the mid 30's last night. Put the beast on the wire as I drive the kid to school @ 6:45am to avoid a 45 minute ride on the bus. Sure makes a big diff with the morning warm up.

Now I'm thinking about one of those remote starting systems. Anybody use them? Likes/dislikes? Anything to be concerned about?

Thx.

I have a remote start that came with my alarm system. It sure is nice to fire up the truck from inside the house. I have had no problems with mine, it is hooked up to the wait to start light. Works every time. ;D

Re:Bbrrrr it's cold!!

I have the Python remote start system. It is also hooked to the wait to start light. It still amazes me how well it works. If it idles for more than 10 minutes it shuts itself off, (this is great if you get busy after you have started it and forget it's running. It also blinks the marker lights every few seconds to let you know it received the signal and that the truck is running (if it's too far away for you to hear it). If you touch the brake pedal without inserting the key it also shuts off as a safety device. All in all, I love it in the cold Minnesota winters.

Re:Bbrrrr it's cold!!

You cant just cycle grid heaters where I live. Every winter we see a fair bit of -40*F. I also can let my truck idle for as long as I wish and below -25*F it will not warm up or blow heat. The engine actually cools down at stop lights and once in awhile the idle actually increases if I park for too long. Does anybody else have an issue with the motor not warming up in subzero temps? I run a winter front and it still takes about 12 miles before I get to operating temperature.

When it gets coooold, try slipping a piece of cardbard with a 6" hole cut in the center between the Intercooler and the Radiator.

You, my friend could use an exhaust brake. It puts a slight load on the engine and regulates temperature better.

Learned a long time ago also, it takes longer to warm up if the have the heater blower on high before the engine warms up some. Remember that is transferring the cold air of the cab into the engine.

I agree...put a load on it with an exhaust brake or install a fast idle kit.

While the exhaust brake costs more - I think it is a better and more functional mod. I have both the brake and high idle.

30* in PA, we thought that that was sun tan weather for up there , try 25-27* DOWN here in the last few days . My stupid neighbor asked the the other night if I was having battery trouble because I keep plugging up my truck at night , I said "naw mine just warms up faster than yours". ;D ;D ;D

Re:Bbrrrr it's cold!!

Two of the windiest places I have driven through are Livinston, Montana and east of Rock Springs, Wyoming...seems to always be windy there!

I've seen lots of semi trailers and travel trailers in the ditch near Livingston...it gets ugly there.
