Re:banks high ram?is it worth it?
When Mike (777Mechanic) on the TDR and this site posted the results he got I was at the dyno with him. We wanted to dyno the new Banks High Ram. I suggested the high ram might actually be taking away power. We did about 10 dyno runs that day. Consistantly it showed a loss of anywhere from 10-13 HP. Back to back against the stock air horn.
I was concerned the air was being allowed to expand in the large bell of the high ram and then being asked to contract again at the plenum cover. Air flow in any system only flows what its smallest restriction is.
We re-installed the stock air horn and back up the HP went.
Now if they had built the plenum volume larger the gain could have been substantial. Oh well.

the flow needs to be equal and balanced for air and fuel.
That big loop on the Hi Ram negates any claims of improvement. Seen it tested a few times. Looks cool is all.

So basically we could call the Kit with the high ram the giveth horsepower and taketh away kit?
Don, since the 12v intake system from said company has a twin intake system, wouldnt this fall into your theory about having a plenum that will flow more volume? Or does it only allow a more even flow of air to 1-6 cylinders?

Monty,
The plenum volume is the area under the plenum cover. That is the volume the engine needs increased to see more power. A good raw number to calculate a decent plenum volume for performance use is: 3 times the area or volume of one cylinder. So you could start with 180 cubic inches of volume to help matters and tune from there.
