Thumbs down Banjo fittings!

I am in the middle of relocating my lift pump and upgrading to 6 AN lines from the tank to the injection pump and I found something very interesting. If you look at the picture you will see a major problem with the factory fuel system.

The fitting on the left is from the tank to the lift pump. The fittings from the bottom of the filter housing to the injection pump are the same as the one on the left. The fitting on the right is from the lift pump to the filter inlet. Both ends of the hose on the right are the same. If you look at the size of the inlet to the fitting you will see the problem. Why in the world they would put in such a small delivery hole is beyond me . No wonder we have problems with our fuel systems . I am looking forward to seeing what my fuel pressure is after I get the rest of the system put together.

What bulkhead fitting did you use for that bottom fuel setup?

I used a Russell RUS-67850 fuel cell bulkhead fitting and a Aeroquip AER-FBM1532 90. The part numbers are from Summit racing. I still need to build a skid plate for the tank after I get the filter/lift pump bracket installed. I needed a drill bit for a tap or I would have the pump assembly installed tonight. I know I had the size I needed but can't find it anywhere, and all the stores are closed . I should have it up and running tomorrow night. hopefully I wont have leaks.

How far does the Russell fitting protrude into the tank from the bottom? The Russell bulkhead that I'm using for the custom return line sticks about 1/2" into the tank. I thought it may be too far into the tank to provide good fuel pickup in low fuel situations. Did you get the 90-degree bulkhead or just the straight fitting + elbow?

It's a straight fitting with in to the tank with a elbow. It's not a normal bulkhead fitting it's called a fuel cell bulkhead. It only sticks into the tank not quite the with of the nut about 1/8". I couldn't get the nut to start with the sealing washer, so I didn't use it. The tank should work as the gasket. I think it will work well at low fuel. I was however surprised to find they don't baffle the tank.
