Autometer Z-Series Guages

I've been thinking about getting Autometer Z-Series guages. I like the black face, white #'s, red needles. I saw somebody who said he got rid of them because they were hard to see at night. Is there any truth to this? I'm getting "old guy eyes" or my arms are getting too short, one of the two. Would Isspro EVA's be the guage of choice for me? Any other recommendations? Thanks

Re:Autometer Z-Series Guages

VDO Vision guages are black faced with white markings and illuminated red pointers. They come with red and green bulb covers also...the green bulb cover makes them match the stock dash lighting on my 97.

berner,

I've got the Z series Autometers and I have no trouble reading them at night. I'm getting the "old guy" night vision too, and they (the gauges) can be read at night. I use the green light (little green rubber dinghy that goes over the white light) so that it matches the OEM dash lights. If you needed it brighter, you could leave the green cover off the bulb. IMHO, they are bright enough to read at night. Also, I have them wired so that they brighten and dim with the dash lights.

Good luck!

DeWain

I had a 2" Autometer z-series tach (in a pillar pod) in my Ranger and I can see it fine at night, no dark spots on it at all. Then again I'm only 19

Re:Autometer Z-Series Guages

Thanks for all the feedback. I checked into the VDO Visions. Very nice. Egauges.com has a super deal for them; pyro, boost, trans temp, all wiring/tubing and a pillar mount for $280. They only make a 30# boost guage though. Too bad, I would've snapped that deal up.
Looks like I'll stick to my original plan and go with the Z-Series. Might have to mount them outside on the front of the hood to get into "focusing range". ;D
